Just a few questions... (could be spoiler)

Heyas, i was looking for a great game to buy during the hollydays and stumbled upon this title when looking at Bioware's site. Since Baldur's gate and NWN are probably the games i enjoyed the most i thought i should see if bioware had produced another little gem :) So before buying it for my PC I wanted to see if it was any good so i rented it for the Xbox. Oh man i had a blast this game really grabed me, i may even have played a bit too much, potentially spoiling my experience during the hollydays to come lol. Anyways the game is back to the store right now and I find myself thinking of how i will make my character once i get my PC version (will have to start over hehe, fun). So I do have a couple questions that i'm sure could be at least partially answered by one of you. Here it goes:

About the force persuade skill, i had the tier2 and still sometimes it failed in my conversations so it makes me wonder: Does this skill have a DC check like regular persuade skill? If it does what skill does it use? Does it use your regular persuade skill? Does it use your charisma modifier, or even your wisdom modifier since it's a force power? And if it doesn't use a DC check, then i guess it is simply plot, and either the attempt will allways fail or allways succeed with this character... Any thoughts?

About the Dexterity skill. It is described to be only used for the ranged weapons to hit skill, and i think the modifier is added to your AC too. But unless i'm mistaken, in other games such as BG and NWN dexterity also influences your melee to hit skill. Was that one completely transfered to strenght in this game? Basically what i want to know is if i make a simple Guardian lightsaber weilding character focused only in combat, can i dump dexterity completely and boost strengh, compensating for the loss of my AC bonus with a kickass heavy armor? Or will i loose something at somepoint by not having any dexterity?

Also, a character i liked was the bloodthirsty assassin robot found on tatooine. I just really loved it when he kept asking me if it was time to blast those damn sand people while i was trying to resolve it the peacefull way lol. I'm sure he's going to be even more fun to have around when i make my Dark Jedi :) . Anyways when you talk with him a bit he tells you you could be able to restore some of his memory if you had any repair skills... unfortunatly i had none, squat, nada... so he just called my a dumb meatbag when i tried *sob*. I also tried talking to him with the little grey wimpy robot because of his increadibly high repair skills but the conversation was the same and it still used my own repair skill. So i'm wondering, did any of you manage to repair him? If so was it worth it? Plz don't tell me exactly what it does, just tell me if it gives more then just some more blah blah, i wish you could send him on assassin missions lol, or maybe just a couple of fun quests. Basically is it worth spending some points in repair? And if so how much?

Oh, and about Bastila. If you make a dark jedi character and she sticks with you? will she become dark too and loose her very nice light side jedi powers? That would be a shame...

Thats what i can think of for now, for anyone who bothered reading through this tyvm :) Also i would ask that if you post and answer and you are not absolutely certain of the answer plz do not post it as if it was a fact, simply say something like :"i think that..." or whatever so i know it's not absolutely certain :) Thx a lot!

I've never thought to look at the "feedback" section to see what the die rolls were, etc after a conversation but using cheats I jacked up my Charisma, Wisdom, Persuasion (oh, heck, ALL stats and skills :D ) and I -still- failed with the second-teir Force Persuade. I strongly believe that there are some encounters that are either automatic failures or have insanely high DCs to the extent that they are ~effectively~ impossible.

>>...About the Dexterity... in other games such as BG and NWN dexterity also influences your melee to hit skill. I haven't researched this thoroughly but I believe someone somewhere indicated that DEX actually is used for ~lightsabre~ combat? In any event, you cannot use (m)any Force Powers in heavy armor so I always just jacked up DEX really high so that I could wear Jedi Robes, use force powers, and still have decent AC. If you don't use Force Powers (or use Powers that can be used with armor) then you probably DON'T care as much about Dex... unless it -does- influence Lightsabre combat... perhaps someone could confirm the rumor I'd heard about Dex working for Lightsabres?

>>... i liked was the bloodthirsty assassin robot ... <<

He is HILARIOUS. When you talk to the jawa "king" in Anchorhead, make sure to ask him for his opinion of what the Jawa said... the 2% probability is hilarious. :D

>>...you could be able to restore some of his memory if you had any repair skills... tried talking to him with the little grey wimpy robot because of his increadibly high repair skills but... it still used my own repair skill... is it worth spending some points in repair? And if so how much?...<<

Well, I never repaired him (I also put no points into Repair)... and as you found out, you HAVE to use YOUR repair skill... but I happen to know that repairing him gives him a few practical boosts -and- reveals some extra story bits. Come to think of it, I think I DID repair him once or twice, because I remember the extra side-story bits...

As to whether it's WORTH it or not? Since you cannot heal the robot with Force Heal I never really used him much except for pure dialogue fun... and hence, repairing him wouldn't be worth it for me, just to get those few extra bonuses and stories. There are four "stages" of repair and the highest one requires a Repair skill of, like, 17 or something. So it's not something you can really "dabble" with. But if you have a character that's going to be repairing bots you find and sending them after foes, etc... then it certainly wouldn't -hurt- to "repair" HK...

(sidenote: I wonder if it is coincidence that HK-47's name includes "47" which was the Codename in the Hitman series of games from Eidos? :) )

>>....will she become dark too and loose her very nice light side jedi powers?...<<

She wouldn't LOSE them but they would have a higher Force Point cost... same as with any Jedi (including the player character)...

I think you'll enjoy the game. I got about eighty hours of fun out of it (played through two full times and dabbled a third)... not a bad value. :)

The dexterity thing about lightsaber is most probably not true, but surely it would be nice to know for sure. About the armor restrictions on certain force powers, will any kind of armor prevent you from using them? even light armor? I guess so huh, shame. Hmm... can you equip/unequip armor in combat? :D

Oh, other questions that pop up... does the intelligence modifier add to the number of skill points you get every level?

What's the point of single lightsabers? In my experience the double lightsaber does 2x the dmg and with 3 small feats you hit just as often! Even worst, the small lightsaber? lol. The only thing i can think of that would explain why someone would think of using a single lightsaber is that he is not a combat character at all and is not willing to spend the few precious feats they get as a scoundrel or such in the 2 weapon fighting style. Or did i miss something?

Oh so once Bastila turns dark her meter goes in the red huh, makes a lot of sense but also stinks. I really enjoyed her group battle boosts and the stun droid/humans. So should it be a better idea to let her stay in the light side? Maybe practicaly it would, but then making her evil sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe it would be best to make her learn dark side skills from the beggining in prediction of her later transformation? Then again how soon is it poissible to drag her to the dark side? hehe, lots of questions :p

What else waht else... i'll come back with more of my questions sooner or later ;)

You can see in the game. Strength, not Dexterity, determines your chance to hit with melee weapons and lightsabers. Dexterity determines chance to hit with all other weapons, as well as your chance to dodge any attack. (Yes, this means that technically if you overpowered Dexterity your character would be sweet. I've done it, he was pretty much invincible.)

The point is that people should be able to do what they want. Plus there's the fact that in the Xbox version there is no double weapon penalty because it is glitched for lightsabers. Instead of pouring feat points into something just to balance your weapons, you could put them into Dueling points for more damage. Double-bladed is the best though for Xbox.

You do not control Bastila, the storyline does. No matter what when you get to use her after the "transformation", she will be the same: Dark but with a mix of powers.

Well I recently passed the game with a Scoundrel/Consular because Soldier/Guardian seemed too easy. I wanted to roleplay the character and as a guy with not many lifepoints and not a great fighter I picked dueling which increased my To Hit and Armor Class. The final battle using a Scoundrel/Consular was pretty tricky and took a few reloads.

No one way is better than another way as long as throughout the game you stick with the same path to give yourself the best advantage possible.
