Does anyone out there use the character scripts?

Nope.
I like to keep everything under MY control.
The spacebar and the auto-pause functions arent invented for nothing

I use basic "bash nearest" AI to handle simple jobs like gobbo bashing.

If the game was designed for one or two characters by themselves, pausing and issuing manual orders would be just fine. It gets annoying having to keep track of 6 characters all the time though, especially if a battle gets heated and they start taking off in different directions. I'd rather control possibly one character and let the AI control the others.

With pausing, I find it easy to keep track of all six... Most of the time they're focussed on the same target anyway.

I think it would be cool to have one command character, and the ability to have that one give the orders to the others, in verbal style.
Their characters would react accordingly, rather than me clicking on each character and manipulating them.
I think that kind of free-form would take too much programming and too much cpu however.

I had NWN, but the desktop I owned at the time fried, and my laptop only had a 16m video card, so I sold NWN. I have since gotten a new desktop with a 64m video card, but as of yet I have not re-purchased NWN.
Between IWDII, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Arcanum and Morrowind, I figure I'll be busy for ions anyway!

(me in NWN with the indomitable Tomi as my voice commanded henchman.)
Me: "Tomi, I want you to use your bow from now on."
Tomi: "You got it."
(fight ensues)
Me: "Tomi, when enemies get in your face, you'll have to either run from them or switch to your blade."
Tomi: "I love this part! ughn... aaargh! ow. gargl. thud."
(using his patented X-ray vision, Tomi spots a trap in the room next door)
Me: "Don't do that, Tomi, there's probably monsters in that room."
Tomi: "I'll take care of that! ughn... aaargh! ow. gargl. thud."
