I`ve just come up from the unseeing eye with the rift rod, which I still have, complete.
Can I do anything with it or should I dispose of it somehow?
Saasar has told me it will destroy me etc.
Advice please?
Cheers

davfra, I believe you were given the instruction for what to do with the device from the avatar in the forgotten temple, when you were given the first half of the rod.

That doesn`t help much. I know the last time around I used it on the Beholder.
My question was `what if?

Listen closely. :)

The GODS decreed that the Rift Device should be torn in two and never used again. The Avatar you met in the Rift Temple said, "I really shouldn't be doing this, since it will make the other GODS angry, but the Rift Device is weak after all this time, and it would be helpful to you and me if I reassembled it and let you use it just this ONCE. But you'd better bring it right back or the GODS will destroy you."

Guess what happens if you disobey the GODS and try to take the Rift Device to the surface? Do you really think you'll get away with it? :)

1) If you take the rod out of the sewers, you die.

2) If you want to complete this quest the evil way, you can give the rod to Gaal. However, I really haven't explored this option, so this is the most I know about it. There may be more to it than that.

3) Finally, your last option is to bring the rod back to the Avatar of Amaunator, therefor rekindling his power and letting the souls of the Avatar's worshippers rest in peace. If you're looking to be a hero, this would be the best course.

If you need any more help than that, tell us. ;)

Umm..

There is no "evil" version of the quest as such...giving the rod to Gaal is a BAD idea, trust me (highlight below for details).

If you give the rod to Gaal, the Unseeing eye is summoned & attacks you there. Better to have it & use it (or not) than summon the Unseeing Eye, IMAO

I tried keeping it and when I went to the avatar, he totally blanked me. I decided then and there that losing all those xps wasn`t worth it.
When I realised that the beholder could be killed quite easily, I thought there might be something in it for me.
Only with curiousity do we learn

if you have a ferret familiar, or use the scroll in de'arnise keep, take off all of the equipment off one npc, and put the rift device in that npc's inventory. have the ferret pickpocket the npc. (you need the ferret cause its the only familiar with decent pickpocket skills in soa.) keep trying until the rift device is pickpocketed by mr bouncing ferret...now leave the sewers. this is the way to bypass checkpoints in the game, if an item is held in the special inventory of a familiar, you can take it past checkpoints like the sewers, or underdark for drow items.

the rift device is a one use, ranged harm spell that drops a target's hitpoints by like around 95%, and completely ignores magic resistance. it is a one shot item, so have a fighter with the helm of viliator equip it, cast simmy, then have the simmy use the rift device...makes dragon killing, even the dragons in improved abzigal mod very fun and easy... :D :D :D

@User: That is such great cheese, I'll have to try that one next time I play. With the rod in one quick slot, a Scroll of Protection from Magic in another plus the Ring of the Ram the Simmy will be Death Incarnate. Maybe give Simmy the Cursed Scroll of Petrification as well so he can cast that one on a victim.

I thought I read in a earlier post that you could sell the rod and buy it back to recharge it.
