One of the things I've never attempted before was killing Drizzt and his party. Is there any penalty or draw back to it (i.e. loss of reputation or class)?

A guy comes and takes back all of the gear your stole from Drizzt's corpse.

Also, everybody hates you, says nasty things behind your back & tries to seduce your Significant Other. Dogs bark, small children follow you throwing stones, etc...

IMO, Drizzit should be unkillable. In the books, the only person to even match him in combat is his father, who is long dead. Also, D. is much, much too cool to be beaten...

However powerful the PC is, D. should be at least 6 lvls higher, with a special "escape" ability if things get a bit tight...

IMO...

I agree: considering the legendary status of Drizzt, even as the Slayer you should not be able to defeat him in SoA. ToB, well, perhaps. But he simply should be too good for you and your crew, at the point you encounter him.

I don't think only his father is able to kill him.Elminster can kill him easily and I always kill him without much trouble. Also he is a Drow...a ranger...a poor ranger and his weapons are not powerful I think the thing hat makes him a little bit overpowering is the magic resistance.
also... what is his stats?

In melee combat Drizzt should be hard to beat, but a mage should down right woop him (high level mage of course).

well, i abuse and exploit him...

do the appropriate grovel to get him to help you, (imho a really good reason to kill him) then when facing improved bodhi, you improve haste your pc, make a big loop around bodhi's little pets, and as he obediently follows you around, (sucker!!!) i slam the door behind me...he usually gets munched by the skellys and other creeps and ghouls in that room...

now i am trying out improved drizzt, so he should be a lot harder to take out, but if he kills improved bodhi for me, he should be so weak a power word kill should waste him...

win, win...

aren't i a stinker??? :p :p :p

Artemis Entreri was also quite his match. Read 'The Silent Blade'?

You get exp for killing Drizzt when you meet him an his friends... BUT the exp isn't incredible, you don't get his cat, his weapons aren't incredible, and they get stolen later anyway... You lose rep I think, people turn nasty on you, so generally I just ask him for help...

Personally when I did kill Drizzt, he wasn't that hard to kill. I think he has about 247 hp

Drizzt is so easy to defeat because of his weak party - it's pity but all his friends were dead maybe 30 seconds after beginning of battle (one have been desintegrated(!)). Alone Drizzt isn't great enemy, though he's much more powerful than his party members...

Try taking him on in BG1. I only manage to win that fight with LOTS of cheese

I've defeated him only because I had great archer with piercing arrows ( +4 to Thac0). :)

Let me guess, he was standing on the other side of the river?

No, he was attacking my character (with Boots of Speed) while next one was trying to shoot him (with normal arrows it is able only if your dice throw is 20 (!) but with arrows of piercing I can throw 16 - 20). I only need to keep other character away enough because Drizzt attacks the one, who is the closest one and it would be pity if this would be someone not hasted...

I agree if you are talking about a low level party, but a high level party with some of the better gear should be able to handle him just fine.
Haste the party, summon a few critters, use hit and small retreat tactics on your fighters so he keeps focused on the critters and the gnolls or when they run out do it to keep his attention not too long on one fighter, but switch it around.
Use defense boosting spells/items on your tanks nonetheless. Improved Invisibility comes to mind as one of them. Give potions of invisibility and thac0 increasing potions to your thieves to try to backstab him to death or use arrows of piercing.
The mages and clerics could try some offensive spells on him and a few might actually surpass his resistance. Malison, flamestrike, otiluke's resilient sphere (and use hand attacks to damage him), emotion hopelessness, blindness, chromatic orb, melf's acid arrow, vampiric touch, call lightning and of course magic missile are good spells to try out.

It is still a tough battle, but with good gear and spell setup it works well enough.

One can always use arrows of detonation and fireballs when you prepare your melee fighters with fully fire resistant or fire healing. Clerics are also nice due to their ability to swiftly cast sanctuary when in dire troubles. I don't know if you can call it cheesy though, maybe if you make it fire healing then it would be.
