no solution?

I'm just wondering, is there any way around this? It is kind of like the computer completely took over my character. I can't control her during battle or use her abilities (like search) while not in combat. It is kind of cool though, she is a lvl 7 Ranger and is good with a Longbow. I think it would be a good idea to make all NPC characters like that, they do their own thing in combat but you can equip them, but I would like to be able to control my own characters. Is there a Remove charm spell?
