Pearl or history? (spoilers)

I'm playing through for the second time--first, on the PC. And I'm at the point where you can keep the krayt pearl, or bring it back to the sand people and hear their history. I'm playing "good" (however they figure that in the incredibly simplistic world of CRPGs), so I can't simply commit heresy while listening to the history, causing the sand people to attack me, and retrieve the pearl. -Well, I *could,* and call myself good but ignorant. However, I'm the kind of anthropological good that knows better than to contradict local cosmogonies.
Does anyone remember whether you get any experience for hearing the history? And if so, how much?

Uhm when I remember right you didn´t gain anything from hearing the story only for giving the pearl to the chief. I was also wondering what the point was of listening the stories..at the end I gave the pearl to the chief listened to the story and slaughtered all sand people got my pearl back and some other goodies and sold all their staffs for good money and you don´t even gain DS points from doing so.

How much experience did you get for it, then, after giving it to the sand people's chief?

I´m sorry I can not tell now the exact number but it something low in the hundreds which made me regret giving the pearl to the chief but got it then later back.

You get 250 XP for giving the pearl to the chieftain. Nothing from listening to the story except for some amusing narrations from HK-47. I think it's supposed to serve as background information on the Builders, but it's of little practical use.

There's a way to have you cake and eat it too, and still keep your status as a good and righteous Jedi:
1. Kill Krayt Dragon.
2. Leave the Twi'lek alone.
3. Give the Pearl to the Sand People chieftain.
4. Listen to the entire history.
5. Save.
6. Speak with the Teller of History (or whatever his name is) again.
7. Purposefully ask something that HK-47 says is going to be offensive.
8. Kill all the Sand People.
9. Reclaim your Dragon Pearl from the corpse of the Chieftain.
10. Walk out of the enclave with a mess of XP and no DS points.

Appologies, Fable. I didn't read your post in depth.
As for XP, I don't remember any, except for completing the "Worthy of History" quest.

Grr..
Still that the game is stupid enough, not to give you a DS point, does not mean, that I want to kill them, I want to be good this time
.
Was already once evil :>

This is only mildly related to this thread, but I wanted to add my 2 cents...
I usually befriend the sandpeople and then go get the pearl and give it to the chieftain. Once he summons the storyteller, I immediately attack the storyteller without even listening to the story. I take out the storyteller quick and since the chieftain already gave me his gaffi stick, he is usually attacking me with his fists, which I find amusing. I then proceed to wipe out the entire village, retrieve my dragon pearl back, and the lot the storyteller's corpse for Raito's gadderfii, the strongest gaffi stick in the game. It looks cool in Juhani's hands and does 5-15 points of physical damage with a +5 attack modifier. It is great for bludgeoning droids or shielded opponents, and it is one of my favorite melee weapons in the game.
Has anyone else ever used this gaffi stick?
Never underestimate the power of the dark side.

If you want to hear the story and keep the Pearl without killing the Sandpeople, there's a solution :
duplicate the Pearl on Manaan before giving one to the chief.

Thanks, but I'll pass. I've never used cheats--after all, the game is incredibly easy as it is, and this is my second run-through. I was just curious about whether any experience accrued after listening to the histories.
Have to say I enjoyed the histories. I just wish you were rewarded for immersing yourself in the history of one of the thing, as well as for killing anything that moves on the horizon.

In all seriousness, I say it's worth it to give the chieftain the pearl. The history is interesting enough, and if anything not having the pearl may make your game more challenging.
I have noticed that by playing light side you have access to less crystals in the game, since most of them are on sith that you if you kill you get dark side points, examples being the eralam on Dak Vesser and the Phond on Mekel. The tradeoff, though is that the light side players get the solari crystal which is really nice.

No disagreement, there. I've already done that.
I also have to say that I really enjoy HK-47's dialog, and the delivery of the actor. He's the only one of the NPC party that rivals in complexity IMO the interesting "flawed" characters of BG2: part anthropologist, part manically gleeful assassin, transparently deceptive and extremely emotional, he would be a fascinating guest at parties--provided everyone wore kevlar vests, of course.

Not by much, though. By the time you get the pearl, you'll already have better fare for your PC (Nemo's Sigil and the Opila just inside the krayt's cavern). It usually gets relegated to Bastila in my games, assuming I hang on to it at all.

This is true, although in my experience it's only really noticable if you have multiple sabers equipped on one or more of your characters.

As for the history, I thoroughly enjoyed HK-47's editorializing, especially the air of resignation when you insist on hearing the entire wandering period ... when he begs you to just let him summarize it.
