What should I do with this crap!?!?

Ok I need to know if I should ditch these items or not?
1.) Notes and letters... I find these, but do they have any real purpose? Like I did the tanner quest and have the tanners letter... What should I do with it and all notes that I find as well.
2.)The exotic hide form the tanner quest... Can I use it for anything, same for the Pelt you get in the gladitor area in the copper coronet.
3.)Besides rogue and other certain gems for specific purposes, do gemshave any other purposes?
Also one last question, where can I find Intelligence potions cause Jan (good old' Jan) ran out mf mental capacity for more spells. Just need some.. thanks.

1)usless, keep those only as a sovenir or drop then (unless of course that they are required on some quest [Free nalia])
2)the pelt is part of solving the murders quest, you should give it to a mechant to idetified it (and lose it), sell the other one (its a left over from BG I) for some money.)
3)only for sell it and get more money.
4)Temples have those.

Bzzzt. #3 in the previous post is wrong, though the poster was otherwise obviously well-informed and well-intentioned. Certain gems (like diamonds) can be used to upgrade magical objects you find. There's a tradesman in the Docks area, one Cromwell, on the eastern side of the map who will inform you if any of the items in your party can be combined or changed to improve their quality; I suggest visiting him regularly.

A diamond, combined with the Bronze Horn of Valhalla, yields the Silver Horn of Valhalla.

Despite that I was wrong. you are also wrong, its not in the docks but in walken promenard, its not Cromwell but a merchant that do that, he close to that art dealer (I can remenber his mane right now).
In the docks is Cromwell that makes some armors and upgreads some weapons.

Drakon, it is Cromwell, and he is in the Docks area. What I'm saying is that he will take items you bring him that can be combined, and improve them. There's no one in the Promenade who can do this.

You are incorrect, the Horn of Valhalla is not upgrade by Cromwell but by a Merchant in Waulkeens promenade.
Cromwell makes the Ankheg Plate Mail, Crom Faeyr, Halberd +4, Wave, Red Dragon Scale, Shadow Dragon Scale, Short Bow of Gesen, Silver Sword, The Equalizer and the Mace of Disruption +2 as long you have the all pieces.
If you dont belive me see it in here http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/equipment/instruments.php , it the gamebanshee BG II equipment page.

You are quite right; I stand corrected. I somehow inimitably managed to find one of the very few items Cromwell does *not* upgrade.

...although it is the one item that does, as you pointed out, require a specific gem, namely......

a diamond and a beljuril.
Has anybody come across a use for any of the other gems (apart from the rogue stone).
I was hanging on to some "tear of somethings" and "tear necklaces" but nobody ever seemed to want them.

The tear gems are just very expensive jewels. I don't recall any other gems having affects on items. Anyone else?

You are correct! The other gems are valueable only for sale, not for use in items. (Now that I've said that, someone will come along and prove me wrong!

To sum it up: keep 1 rouge stone, 1 diamond, 1 bejurril (excuese my spelling)
Throw away/sell: all other gems, all letters.
edit>For some odd reason I keep letters and other useless stuff in my stronghold... I never know what i might need.

If you get some silver dragon blood, can't you combine that with the human flesh from the tanner quest to make some sort of +5 leather armour?

That's the flesh armor. It's AC 3, with magic resistance 20%.

Have you ever gotten the silver dragon blood? I usually play good characters, so I am reluctant to kill a metallic dragon, but is there a way to either pick its pocket or negotiate for the blood?

Good advice:
I used to sell every item i didn;t thought i needed in the adventures market. And stashed every scroll, key or quest item in a bookcase there.
When i found out that i needed an item (like a diamond or roquestone) i knew where i could buy them back.

Some itens in ToB also require gems to be upgraded. Star Saphires, Diamonds, Emeralds, Rogue Stones, Kings Tears, all will be useful some day...

Just to let you know, I would keep the Tanner Letter too. If you want to get the Armor, you'll need some information from it.
