Hi!
Im not a big fan of the star wars movie but i kinda thought that this game looked cool anyway, but thats probably because i loved the earlier Bioware games, such as, Baldurs Gate 1&2! I like those kind of RPGs and i Wonder if you think this is anything for me! My favourite part about the BG gmaes is the charachter creation, Which doestn seem to be likely in KotOR! hERE YOU CHOOSE BETWEEN THREE THINGS and then just youre new face! It has a Neverwinter Nights feeling this game am i right or wrong? anyway do you think i should buy it?

Well - if you should get it or not is completely up to you.

Personally - I feel it lacks in the character creation catagory as you place as a priority. There are 3 base classes, and 3 more advanced classes you choose between later in the game.
Character statistics are ala 3.ed rules used in NwN with point-buy system where you spend an amount of points to increase you stats.

Then there is the dark/light side situation, where you can go in either direction.

Futhermore there is a skill system involved again much like 3.ed rules D&D NwN rules.

That being said, I find the game very good - I would place it better then NwNs official campagin, I don't think it rivals BG-series(but then again - not much do ). There are some decent to good character development from the NPCs that can follow you along (you can have two compainions at any given time, but you can choose between 9 almost at will), and there are interaction between these NPCs and you, and vice versa.
When the NPCs level up, you can customize their character as you do your own, and you have full control on their equpitment and can have on their movement - much like done in BG-series.

The story is rather okay in my oppinion, by not completely unexpected, if rather obvious at times .

The graphics are great, if you have a computer that can run it. I didn't have all settings on full myself and I have a rather hefty computer But the graphics were still great.

Sound is good, and all dialog is voiced with possiblity of subtitles - although the aliens languages are rather limited to a few sentences, they still provide a means of atmosphere.

One thing I didn't like though - was the limited areas, much like BG2/NwN you run around in several smaller areas with a clear path in them, and it is a bit "restricting" for thoese that are used to Morrowind-type worlds or MMO.games.
The variety of the areas are good though - and ranges from world to world, from desert on Tatooine, to waterworld on Maanan and so on.

The game isn't terrible defficult, but I feel that is a lacking quality of most games in these days - looking at NwN and such. But it still offered some challenges, but mostly due to difficult opponents - more so then puzzles.

As an RPG I don't think it is up there - but as an action based game it is really great, and I don't regret for a second that I bought it.

Hmm - there is probelry more, but I seems to have forgotten it now.
If you have the cash to spend on a game, I would recommend this in a heartbeat It is a good game.

Definitely a good game

A very different feel from the BG series; definitely no AD&D setting here, as Xandax pointed out, it has an "action" feel to it. Looks like a first-person shooter but you can do cool RPG-style tricks. I too, found the game very restricting at first, but it really grows on you. I love the graphics and -- heck -- getting to use lightsabers is sooo cool

I don't think you should hesitate to get SW:KotOR.

It was only one thing that made me buy this game. Light Sabers. It's as simple as that. Pretty flashing lights, cool sounds, and the ability to deflect laser shots. Golden

Actually, I've been playing the game for a couple days now, and am quite impressed. Sadly, my specs aren't all above recommended (256 RAM, and Radeon 9000), but the game still runs rather smoothly. I get a bit lower framerate then in most, but again, the specs.

The graphics, even when on a low setting are still amazing to look at. Bioware, I don't think, is capable of messing up the sound of a game, and when they have a score as emotionally compelling as Star Wars music, well, that's putting two extremly good things together.

The game play is nice, easily shifted from pure turn base, to fully real time, or a happy medium.

While the inital character creation does seem limited, the whole game is, in face, character creation. It never really stops, which I feel is an amazing strong feature of the game.

In addition, the Odyessy engine is so much more impressive then the flop of the Aurora engine (Neverwinter Nights).

While I personally wouldn't rate it as high as many reviewers have given it (which I feel was quite possibly due to the Star Wars title), I would definatly recommend it. Going off the current GB rating system, I would've given it an 8.7

I suspect the game designers were aware of how much gamers would dig the lightsaber thing -- isn't that what the X button (pc version) is all about? Its function is "brandish weapon" and pushing it can get really addictive. Not really any combat significance (afaik), it just looks super cool. You can use while running too, and with the camera rotation feature... Beauty

Try brandishing a two-handed weapon and then switching to a regular lightsaber.

I think that's a pretty fair rating. It's a beautiful game, with so much visual detail that you can easily get distracted by just watching things going on around you. But in some ways it represents (IMO) a blunting of what had been refined in BG2, where characters were more distinctive, sometimes interfered with quests, or fought with one another. And for all the "worlds" you can visit in KotoR, it feels more linear. Especially in BG2's chapter 2, there was a remarkable sense of being able to take on any number of possible challenges, with a variety of potential allies. The writing in KotoR, too, lacks the tightness and edge of both BG2 and PS:T.

But I still think KotoR is great fun, and beautifully done. I hope we don't have to wait another three years for a successor.

Don't forget the interface. It's exceedingly limited compared with previous BioWare instalments. Why can't you move items in and out of containers with impunity instead of having to take everything/put one thing in at a time? Why isn't there any easy way of changing weapons? etc.
