hello,
I have 3 questions regarding a soloing Necromancer:
- is there any way to disarm/avoid traps without the thief abillities?
- are there other spells, besides melf's minute meteores, that can hit golems?
- the same as above for Kangaxx?

1) Some of the Familiars can detect traps, but I don't think they can disarm them.
2 & 3) If you count Black Blade of Disaster as spell then yes. But I don't think you want to fight a golem in melee combat
The spell Dragon's Breath (only available as a high level ability for mages if you have ToB) can harm them too because it ignores magic resistance (but not fire resistance).

Necromancer are one off the worst type of mages but my first char. that i fnished the game was a Necromancer....now I prefer pure mages, conjures and sorcerors...
about your questions:
SPOILER
For traps you can use minor spell deflection that will prevent almost every trap, mirror iamge is good too..
Use the Rod of Smiting to kill golems, you can buy it at a merchant at the Drow City Ust Na'tha.......
Also,if you have the staff of the magi you can go invisible hit them,go invisible hit them...I usually use Project Image(ilusion you can't use) and summon lots of undead(lvl 5 spells)when I'am at the lvl 15 or more.........
for Kangaax when he is at the Demi-Lich form is very hard to kill him with a mage I did this to kil him:
With Staff of Rynn(buy it at the adventurer mart),draw upon holy migh, improved haste, potion of oil speed and start hitting him....use a protection of undead scroll or spell imunity(abjuration)to avoid the trap the soul ability(imprisionment).remember stealing the ring when he gets out the tomb before turning hostil(use some thief or the ferret familiar, lawful neutral)..

Thanks a lot
Spell deflection works great
My first two times through the game, I had edwin or nalia use the staff of rynn and they didn't do any damage at all to that floating skull (hmm.. just remembered Morte).
Melf's minute meteors hits him but it's just not enough, even at level 15 with 8*15 meteors he didn't even get to be badly hurt.
Too bad those meteors don't improve along with your levels...
Also, you mentioned the Black Blade of Disaster, well where do I get that spell? it's one of many level 9 spells that I didn't find through out the game (Chain contingency, Energy drain, Imprisonment, Shape change, Spell strike, Spell triger) and a few other level spells (pierce shield, <improved> mantle, summon hakeashar, mordekainan's sword, control undead).
Can I really steal his ring before the fight?

black blade may be available in ribauld's special wares he offers to sell you after exiting the underdark.
melf does improve as you go up, you get more of them...try improve hasting your melf gunners, get twice the fire rate...you can find many 9th level spells from ribauld after exiting the underdark, others may be found at the elven city...finally, all 8th and 9th level spells can be found in saradush, if you have tob installed...
you can pick kangy's ring, however, if you install the baldurdash fixpack, which is recommended because it fixes so many bugs in the game, you can't do that anymore...but if you do pickpocket the ring before the fight, his regeneration rate drops...so it might be worthwhile to do this...he only has one ring after the baldurdash patch...
don't worry too much about black blade...its really for fighter mages, they really love the spell, its one of the best weapons in the game..until near the very end...
