He's in the Droid Shop, back on Tatooine. If you're entering Tatooine from the desert through its main gates, you'll find the Droid Shop on the far right hand side of the large square.

Not all would agree to this (myself included) and after playing the game twice, I can easily see why Wopps want to try him out.
BTW, you kind of remind me of Xzar in BG1 ("We are all doomed...").

He's only pointless if you want to make KotoR into an endless slugfest--in which case, dialog, visuals, atmosphere, etc, are all pointless.
HK-47 is probably the most interesting party NPC you can acquire. Would I use him in a party after you leave the desert planet? No; but then, I prefer a party that's heavy in melee skills. But HK-47 is brilliantly written, extremely well voiced, and turns into a marksman without peer later in the game. He's fun, and he's a keeper.

Definitely get him, even if you have to do those painful races to raise the credits. Upgrade him fast (IIRC you need total repair skill of 17, incl bonuses) and he will not only be a very entertaining but also a super-combat mind-immune NPC. His defence by the end is one of the highest you can get

His price is 5000 units. The store owner will drop it to 4000 fairly readily, but you'll have to be schooled in persuasion, as I recall, to get it down to 3000.

Even cheaper if you threaten him with your lightsaber

Spoiler....
Yep, 1 darkside point / 2500 credits and the shop owner will not talk with you after the incident.

Knew it--was just making sure.
That's why I didn't refer to it, earlier. It's not the kind of suggestion you want to make to a person asking such a question, without telling them the side effects.

Why's that? Compared to something like Fallout 2 or Arcanum, where you'll actually find a completely different structure of quests for being a badass, I found KotoR's evil path pretty dull. I mean: you get to egg people on in verbal abuse, lie to Council members, snark to a machine, and kill some more folks than the rampage you already go on. Wow.

As I recall you can get it down to 4000 credits without persuasion, and then 2500 by either persuading or threatening him.

I only managed 3000 through persuasion. Has anybody actually had luck in getting it lower--and if so, what level of persuasion did you have?

I usually have about 12 or 13 at that stage, but I don't think there are degrees of success in persuasion. I'm absolutely positive it was 2500 with a successful persuade, though.

I went back to an old save: you can get 2500 by Force Persuade as well (never bothered with points into Persuade, rather put them in Repair for HK's sake).

O==={BIG SPOILER ON DARK SIDE}===O
Highlight to read.
After beating the game, I returned to a previous save to see some dark side options, and I made Z kill Mission after forse persuading him on his life debt. This is just plain evil, made me shiver. I can't even roleplay a bad guy, have to be good....makes me feel so much better, hehehe. Besides I had to kill my favorite NPC, Jolee, really didn't want to do that.
