Is it to late to switch?[very minor spoiler]

I want to switch from Yoshimo to Jan, but I have Yoshi beefed up on traps and he's at level 11 or 12 I believe. I want to switch because of what happens in Spell Hold and I need a back up ranged fighter. Since my tactics, which I am sticking to require a ranged attacker and I'm to stupid to put Minsc in the back since he is strong I want to change my mind. I'm also on my way to Spell Hold but I want to finish the Druid quest, Keep quest, and the rest of the Temple quests; is this enough to beef Jan up to what I need before I head on over to Linvail's house and work with him then on to Spell Hold?

Level
NPC levels scale somewhat to your party's level, so Jan should be fine. You can always boost his EXP in Shadowkeeper if you find he's way low. Jan is a great NPC who will bring a lot to the party...like Project Image + spike traps
Good luck!

Shadowkeeper is a
the editing tool for BG2, you can almost do everything to your characters with it (just ask UserUnfriendly

)
You can download it

No.
No, I mean the (almost) all-powerful game editor
Shadow keeper with which you can summon items, EXP, gold, change stats, and do all kinds of useful things. If you find Jan is just horribly low level, sling him some EXP in Shadow keeper and it's cool.
This is how UserUnfriendly made the insanely overpowered Kensai/druid/sorceror Bun-bun.

Jan Jansen is working great, his start out was level 11 and he's a backup mage so I'll keep him.
