In Bg mines the Conjurer/Mage BECAUSE
1.Get extra spell
2.Can dual and have decent THAC0
3.Don't need another mage
4. Can use wands
5. Can use range attack and cast spells
6.DOUBLE your lvl1 SPELLS w/ ring of wizardry

Bg2 Barbarian
1.Rage
2.Very good VS thieves
3.Fast movement etc

BG2 TOB
Netromancer
1. extra spell plus W/ rings of wizardry makes him good

Paladin. Its always a Paladin for me because they make great party leaders. A smidgen less lethal than a pure fighter in combat, they have the added lay on hands and healing spells as well as assorted support spells.

My main characters in BG, NWN and ToEE all have been paladins, as have a number of my AD&D PCs.

Other favourite classes: Ranger (though limited as a main PC) and mage.

PS: I hear that in BG2 you can quest for a Holy Sword. If so, I GOTTA get that game and export my PC to it.

Fighter of course. You can use almost all of the weapons.

Ranger.
But it's kind of tiresome, because one can only have 20 arrows in one slot. Not 40, as it is in BG2.
Is there a mod which changes that? Or a way I can change that myself?

The Dark Side of the Sword Coast allows you to carry 50 arrows and 100 slingbullets IIRC.

...and requires Tales of the Sword Coast.
You gave me just another reason to buy it...

Come to think of it, it might be TotSC, and not DSotSC, that gives you the 50 arrow thing. I'm not sure though. Does anyone know?

BG1 Favourite class: Fighter.

Not so easy to be killed, handles any weapon very well, not so many restrictions, allows mistakes (a few precious while you're learning).

BG2 Favourite Class: Barbarian.

Barbarian Rage (no need to tell bout the rest)

ToB Favourite Class: Fighter Mage.

Does imprisionment, finger of death, absolute immunity, stoneskin mean anything to you?

Promissing class: Bard.

They could be better, but they're cool to play through any BG series games, as well as in IWD or NWN.

Well in Baldur's Gate I my character is a Fighter, and upon importing into Baldur's Gate II she becomes a Barbarian. (I always figured that the combination of her Heritage & being infected as a Werewolf had some effect since it was my understanding that if you didn't seek out the cure, your party would transform but you wouldn't. :) )

Besides, she did take out the Werewolf Caves all by herself considering that the rest of the party couldn't keep up with her Boots of Speed.

For more arrows in one slot try here for the easy of use mod.
or try http://www.weidu.org

I dont like rangers in BG1, the dont realy ahve anything over a fighter, and a fighter can specialize.

I like the plain fighter using bows the best in BG1. In BG2 it has to be the wildmage (realy fun and realy poerfull character in BG2, would love to play one in BG1)

Favorite Class in BG1 would have to be a thief, it's just great to hide in shadows, backstab giant monsters in temples, pickpocket useless things ;)
Plus I like thieves from a roleplaying point of view.

Second, only by a smidgen would be a gnomish illusionist, if only because they look cool with a robe of archmagi. :D

BG2, either a druid or swashbuckler, druids finaly matter in BG2 and swashbucklers are cool dualwielding sob's (yes I know a dualwielding specialized fighter is probably better.)

its a tough q

Well, Ive played through with the following characters (these are the ones I can remember).

- Human CG Ranger (BG 1 only)
- Half/orc NE Berserker (BG 2 SOA only)
- Human LG Monk (BG2 SOA Only)
- Human CE swashbuckler (SOA only)
- Half/elf NE Fighter/Thief (BG2 SOA & TOB)
- Half/elf LN Mage/Thief (BG2 SOA only)
- Human LG Undead Hunter (SOA only)

Im currently in chapter 6 of BG 1, and amd playing through (or at least intending to) BG, TOSC, SOA & TOB with my:

Half/elf NG Bard (to be specialised as a skald or blade in BG2).

Im really enjoying the bard. The fighter thief, swahsbuckler, monk and and half/orc berserker were all a lot of fun.

You may have noticed I havent tried many demi-human races - this was because I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find out that my half/orc couldnt actually have a romance with anyone (looks like you need to be human, half-elf, elf, gnome or halfling as far as I know).

The thing I loved about the mage was his familiar. Having a familiar in TOB is even better I believe.

Other classes I havent tried that I want to try and think would be cool are:

- druid (specialised perhaps as an avenger)
- thief (maybe an assassin).
- a single class mage - maybe a wild mage or sorcerer
- wizard slayer
- specialised cleric (i dont know talos or lathander or something)
- maybe a cavalier, as dragons truly are the toughest encounters in the game (mostly)

I guess playing a specialised ranger like a beastmaster or archer would be cool too.

Small Spoilers

I have played the following:

a NG Ranger thru SoA (stuck in ToB)

she was fun - lotsa hack and slash using that +2 sword in the Nashkell mines area (w/ Prism)

my second was a NG straight Mage
DEFINITELY a lot of fun. Get to keep all of the wands, scrolls and she is just, well, slaying just about anything in ToB (solved SoA)

Now I'm playing a Paladin. He's a lot of fun. I'm in chapter 7, but taking a side route through Durlag's house. (Gotta build up my exp for SoA) :)

FWIW

I enjoyed the challenge of a mage in BG. With the low level limit, mages really remain pretty weak throughout--and that's good, if you enjoy the thrill of really beating an opponent through strategy.
