So when do I actually get to go to the unknown planet. I am also confused about the trailer with Bastila on the unknown planet. I mean how could she be there when she is already captured by Malak?

I am unsure as to wich "trailer" you speak off.
But you will be allowed to travel to the "Unknown Planet" when you have all the pieces of the star map. (IIRC
)

Developers do strange things when they're showing off a game. Strange, incomprehensible things. That's one of them.
