THIS IS CHEATING!

OK, I just wanted to state that first. I found a trick that allowed me to get unlimited gold in this game. However, you have to be at a relatively high level to do it. I didn't see this listed anywhere else, so please forgive me if it is.

After rescuing Paida from the lower sections of the temple, take her back to her home town. Before taking her to her house, give her all of your most expensive equipment. (This is probably the point where you would want to save the game in case something goes wrong.) Make sure that she still has 3 open slots in her inventory for silver, gold and platinum. Then go talk to Jack Borton, the leather worker (he is the only trader that seems to work for this), and ask to trade with him. He will "barter" with Paida first, and she will get the payment for selling everything in her inventory, but none of it will actually be gone. You can then close the window and ask to barter with Jack again. Each time you do this, her PP, GP, etc will increase, but Jack will never actually take the items.

Just for fun, I tried it for a while and that party is now up to over 7 million gold (actually 700,000 PP). This works best if you have the frostbrand, as it sells for big money. She was also holding several +6 wondrous items that I had crafted. She was pulling in 13,000 PP every time I talked to Jack. Then you can simply take the money from her inventory and drop it into the inventory of a member of your party.

Of course, I left her with enough money so that her family would never have to work again. Now I've probably messed up the entire economy of the town..... ;)

Gold cheat?

You must be evil alignment to have done that :D Just kidding.

I am tempted to try that with my paida since she doesn't want to leave me no matter how I tried to kick her out! :D :D

Paida's husband is the Wheel and Wainright in Hommlet (their house is just to the upper right of the blacksmith). Did you try taking her to her house? As soon as I walked in, she left the party.

Actually my party is neutral good with a Paladin. Since Paladin's "fall" at the drop of a hat in this game I expected to have bad results, but none so far. I justify it by telling myself that between crafting items and unlimited random encounters, I could have all the money I want given time. This just got it quicker and allows me to play through the game with a different group.

Good luck with Paida. I got her up to level 4 before going back to town. I figured that would help her get her drunk husband in line. After all, he is at the bar EVERY night and leaves their daughter at home alone....

I just tried this using Serena (from Nulb) as the NPC and it worked with her as well. I'm guessing that NPCs just don't like to give up their items to Jack Borton, but they still get the gold. If ANY NPC can be used, it would open this up to groups of much lower levels.
