When do Items stop being "new"

Question about inventory.

When I find new items, I'll often go to the inventory to read up on them since the simple listing you get when picking off a body or a chest doesn't offer much.

I'm finding that if I go to the "show new items" filter, it still shows a long list of items with their purple outlines. Much of the stuff has been gathered long ago and shouldn't be new at all. I'm not quite sure what I have to do to get them to drop off the "new" filter so I can just deal with the stuff that really is a recent aquisition.

I think--and this is just supposition on my part--that KotoR's idea of "new" mirrors that of Internet Explorer: any message you haven't read yet remains bold-faced and new. So if you want to remove old items that are still regarded as new in KotoR, you have to click on 'em, and look at each.

Annoying, I know. Why they couldn't have added an alphabetical sort while they were including everything else this side of existence, I'll never know.

Also, in the example of grenades, if you loot another, it will becaome new again.

Yes, it looks like I need to get myself into the habit of physically clicking on each item in the new list to clear it. It would have made more sense to have it be flagged as not new after just switching to the new items filter.

But, I did go through and click on all the items that were showing as new and I've gotten them cleared out, so things should be more manageable now.
