Where is Barter Panel?

Greetings All -

Here's a newbie question - How can I access the Barter panel, and when would I use it? I'm picking up a lot of stuff that I have no use for (being a Paladin) but that I think Rogues and Sorcerers might be interested in. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Right click on the Player you want to barter with, and the radial menu should appear. Barter, I believe, is the left option in the menu, I believe anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply, Aegis. I have not been able to barter in that fashion, but I have been told something like "You cannot barter with this character." when dragging an item from my Inventory to a character. Does that sound like the "correct" way to do this?

Thats a method of going about it, without the radial menu, anyway. Slipped my mind when I answered you originally.

OK, then. Thanks for that.

Now, when will I actually be able to use this? So far, I haven't seen this Barter panel, as NWN keeps telling me I can't barter with any character.

And what's up with the "stolen" stuff? All the traps I acquire are described as stolen when I try to sell them to merchants. This is what got me interested in bartering in the first place.

Barter is for players inbetween (multiplayer -> player to player/player to DM) - not between you and NPCs. For NPCs you need to find a merchant that will buy stuff from you.

Traps needs to be sold to "shady" merchants (for what ever reason). If you are playing the official campaigns then there are some merchants that specialize in "rogue" equiptment.
(Although I don't know why traps are marked as Stolen after HotU)

Ahhhh ... got it! Didn't realize it was a between "real" PC kinda thing. I'll keep that in mind for when I "graduate" to multi-player games, and keep my eye out for shady merchants.

I assume I'll just have to try to sell these to every merchant until I find one on the gray market? And, since I can't use wizard, rogue, etc. specific items, I may as well sell these if I can?

Genreally I'd say, sell anything you aren't very sure of you want to use - Money is better to have, then an item you may or may not want to use at some point :)

Also - don't bother collecting traps and such, I find they are to much of a pain to sell compared to the money they bring in (my oppinion) due to that "Stolen" lable

I have had little problem getting rid of the traps I have recovered and found them worth recovering. Just go to the bartender at The Moonstone Mask to sell them (save your gems & jewelry for sale to another merchant, tho' - that bartender has an incredible appraisal value).

Well - that is okay for chapter 1, but not very usefull for chapter 2+ and expansions. Although I know there is a "Shady Merchant" (or something) in Port Llast - near the docks - whom also buys traps.

Still find they are more trouble then their worth in gold.

Thanks for both replies.

Darthel - If the Moonstone Mask bartender "has an incredible appraisal value", why not sell everything to him? Any downside?

Xandax - I don't know what the traps might be worth in $, but if I'm not going out of my way to find them, what's the harm in getting some $ for them, rather than just leaving them in the boxes and chests?

Also, why would this be "not very usefull (sic) for Chapter 2+ and expansions."? I'm guessing that at a certain point there isn't much value in picking up most of the smaller items. They take up space/weight and don't offer the more experienced adventurer enough bang for the buck. Any other reason for your statement?

Thanks to you both for your time and input!

Regarding the appraise value. It is bad; because it is your apparise value vs. the merchant. If the merchant wins - you get lower prices for you stuff and have to pay more for purchasing from him. Thus you haveing higher then the merchant is good.

If you have the inventory space and weight to carry around all the traps you find - then there is no problem. I just find I usually carry near my weight limit in magical weapons and armour, not to mention tomes, potions and what else I find (and this is with 3 100% magic bags, several of 60-80% and high str.). I feel that using inventory weight and space on something that dosen't pay as well, is a waste. I never carry traps for selling - only if I have a rogue that can lay them.

The merchant at the Moonstone Mask is only good in chapter one because:

Thanks for the helpful info, Xandax. I get the negative/positive appraise thing now. I hear what you're saying about choosing what to carry as well. And thanks for hiding the spoiler. Good policy, IMHO.

A different but related question: At what point should someone consider joining a group game, and do you have any suggestions for who to contact if I'm interested/ready? Thanks again!
