I always get more than enough just from selling all the junk I don't need (particularly armour) to the merchant at the Yavin space station, but if you're playing the Xbox version then I guess I can't really help you. You can't upgrade your swoop, though, I can tell you that much.

One easy way to get money is to resolve, early on in the game, only to use your mech team members when absolutely required. This means they're hardly used at all; and once past those early sequences, you can sell *all* the power-ups, repair items, etc, that you find. Plenty of money. (And it's not as if either team member is essential to battle, since KotoR is a melee-heavy game, and the droids are mainly meant for ranged use.)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

The Rodian at Yavin will play Pazaak with you for 750 credits/hand - Save, play, lose, reload, play, win - $$$ :D Oh, and if you beat him 10 times you get that lovely 20% off his stuff, which saves you even more money and lets you sell stuff to him for truckloads. Watch out, though, when he gets upgrades on his stuff (every time the Transwhatsitians come) everything you've sold him disappears, so don't "store" things with him if you might ever want them again.

if you're on xbox, i've got a money making strategy.
but it's dangerous.

just get some adren. stims or cardio pac. or calo's armor from mika dorin and that guy on dantooine, respectively(most expensive things w/out yavin space station).
go to manaan. equip bastila/juhani/jolee with 2 single bladed lightsabers with firkrann, solari, upari, sigil etc. preferrably those 4. then get candy equipped with calo's armor, cardio pac, adren stims, etc. go to manaan/hrakert station/right by airlock. save game. unequip all items you want to copy from your party members. step outside the airlock. step back in. your partners should have 2 copies of the items now. change what you need to. save. unequip. exit. enter. check. save. unequip. etcetera.
or your can play everyone in pazaak and swoop racing. but my way makes about 1,000,000 an hour if you're smart.

Being that the cheap way, i beat the game with 50,000 with about 30,000 spent w/o using that glitch. Easy just sell stuff u dont need, comp skipes are very good early on because u find around 20-30 and they sell for 100 each, a quick 1000 early on. just pickup everything, and after every quest sell your "old" items that you dont use any more and/or sell items you found but have no use for. Keeps your inventory pretty clean and tidy while racking up the credits for you. Oh and P.S. dont spend it all on some fancy record player. -Old Lady on Mr Deeds.

Yeah-granted you don't need to cheat to get money. It's just quicker.
And, if you have the money to be able to do the cheat effectively, you have as much money as you need. You can through the whole game without using money-(besides the droids)-unless you're a ****y who bribes your enemies.
