Well as i have both of 'em I think that you should get Morrowind GOTY..
Kotor is not a bad game but when you've completed it as Dark you think that enough and wont play as Light..
You can play Morrowind forever though it's getting on my nervs allittle bit cause I cant find a character I like.. But I definetly think that you should buy Morrowind if you want a game tha wont get boring after 20 hours.. You could play Morrowind for like 500 hours and there are plenty of stuffs left..
(My oppinion)

well obviously morrowind. Now i have a question for you. Why in the heck would you come to a forum dedicated to morrowind and ask the participants if you should get GOTY editon or some star wars game?

Which to buy
Well that's a loaded question as they are VERY different types of games. Haveing played and finished KotoR as Pure Light, Pure Dark and as Gray (doing what I would really do) and now playing Morrowind I find that they are worlds apart. The only trait they share is that they are both role playing games. However herein lies the difference.
KotoR
Great if your are into the future and Star Wars in General. You get to use and configure a light saber which is really what the game is all about. Also, you have a 'party' of characters whereas in Morrowind you have only yourself. Three of which you can control at a time. That and using force powers. The plot is straighforward and linear. No matter what you do you will not be able to destroy the plotline, just how you interact with it. For instance, you cant just kill anyone, the game wont let you. Yes you make a character, improve skills and quest around various planets but the game isn't very long. I finished it though the first time on Normal in about 60hrs, 2nd time in about 45 and the third in about 30. I doubt that you could complete Morrowind in less than 500. No, that's not a typo.
Morrowwind
You must be a die hard role playing fan who loves AD&D style questing. Also having alot of patience helps as this game is long. Lots of exploring, roaming, fighting, building aliances and questing to do. Morrowind is much more in depth, and if you get the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, you might finish your first game around Xmas 2004'. Personally I like and own both games. If you have never played a role playing game before then I suggest KotoR first then Morrowwind. But both are solid and you won't be dissapointed no matter which you end up going with. Allow me to sum it up.
KotoR -- 50-100hrs. Good, but linear plot. Not much room for deviation. Much more difficult on Hard setting than Morrowwind. The best part is hacking with your saber and using Death Field to drain you opponents.
Morrowind -- 500+ hrs. Unbelievably intricate and interwoven storyline. Massive multi-continent world to explore. 100's of quests. There are Guilds and Great Houses to join. Alliances to build and famous articats and treasure to collect. You can seal souls from your slain enemies and use the to make majic weapons. Spells, beasts, armor, wow... this game has it all. Since I've bought it I've been playing from about 5pm-1am M-F and sun up to sun down on the weekends. I know, I have no life but when its cold and gloomy out, nothing beats it. About 200hrs in and I'm about half way done. I could have played 3-4 games of KotoR in that time.
Hope this helps.
