How can I free the mage from the Sphere prison in the Underdark w/out killing him
?

Yeah, I've released everyone else. I just got the impression that I should spare that mage's life since there is a refernce in my journal about releasing aa imprisoned mage in the Underdark.

Oh, that one isn't in the Sphere. The one you're thinking about was imprisoned via the spell Imprisonment.

Thanks, I 'll keep looking around but freedom is a level 9 spell and I'm not even close to that level in spells. That mage will probably have to sit tight for a while

You should be able to purchase a freedom scroll somewhere on that level in the underdark. (from the duergar, IIRC) Check the walkthru for hints on this, if you want.
