In 3.x you can, so I'm guessing you can, too in IWD2. Never tried, though, since you need all ability scored except int.

I know that you get many mc possibilties with 3.x - but monks and paladins can only mc to one of three classes.
So if you choose e.g rogue at level one can you choose paladin at level two ?
...anyone ever tried this ?

i started an aasimar with the following stats:
str 14
dex 16
con 12
int 10
wis 14
cha 14
with the intention of making him into a pal2/monk, being immune to almost every negative effect (fear/desease/poison/confusion with the sash of b,ack raven) and maximising spell resistance with the holy avenger. i got him to pal2/monk3, and got bored/frustrated - perhaps a human, that wouldn't need such a high int to get 2 skill points needed for hide and miove silently will work here...
a single classs monk is just better, and he does not need a high cha score to get better saves...
another way to go is adding 3 monk levels to a paladin build, for evasion backed by cha-based saves (still need to go with max leather armour for evasion to work, though), ability to use monk-only items (two of which are IMHO not usefull for a simgle-class monk - thunder clap bracers and sash of blac raven).

I thought more about just giving my cleric a monk and a paladin level:
lawful good - 18 WIS, 16 CHA (turning & saving bonus), 16 STR, 14-16 CON, 8-10 DEX and 4-6 INT
(btw. - still waiting for IWD2 to be delivered - does IWD2 rolls the PC - abilities - like e.g. BG or do you buy your ability points like e.g. KOTOR ?)
using heavy armor - holy avenger & stunning star of speed (2WF & ambidex)- and the monk-only items
...should be a cleric with great fighting-capabilies, high SR and excellent saves
...any comments / suggestions ?

in normal mode you will get to level 16 with a 6-member party. MAYBE 17 if you milk the expierience totally. One char might be a level higher, as there is an item that gives 10K xp.
this means that a spellcasting class will cast 2 level 8 spells/day. assuming you're human, that is. therefore, adding more than 1 non-caster level might hinder his spellcasting.
now, if you want to make a "self-buffing" higly defensive char, i would suggest adding one more paladin level, for fear immunity.
ironicly, a female drow might be the best choice here - she won't get the level 8 spells anyway, and the race spell resistance adds up with items.
now for the abilities - you don't roll, you get 6*10 + 16 points to distribute, modified by race (e.g. drows get 6*10+20, half orcs get 6*10+14). the min and max scores are a function of the char's race, too.

I used to play D&Ds on highest difficulty, but with a 6-member party - anyone knows to which level you will get this way ?

from my point of view you don't need the level 9 cleric spells - but the level 8 seems to be very good - I see the advantage of a 2nd or 3rd Paladin level - but this shouldn't delay the way to the level 8 spells to much...

so a human with: STR 18 - DEX 8 - CON 14 - INT 4 - WIS 18 - CHA 14
is possible and will work ?
