HoTU- Deekin question-after Halaster

I've played through the game, more than once. I am sure I missed things, but I'll probably find them eventually. One thing though confused me enough to make me check the walkthru here....
After you make it through the Underdark with Deekin as your henchman [since Halaster won't send anyone except Nathyra and Deekin with you] and you defeat the Valsheress... Why can't I get Reaper to call Deekin back? He [It?] will call back Nathyra for me, but I can't seem to get him to mention Deekin as a possible companion.... The walkthru seems to say that Deekin is a possible companion while you go through Cania.......
