well, if you've never played before i suggest you try to join a group that plays in your area. Or you can try joining up with a group that plays online. You cant really play alone, so your best bet is to find some people who need another player and then join up. Thats what I reccomend anyways.

you can try various bulletin boards that have a D&D or roleplaying theme, or even chat rooms. Surf around the net and keep trying to find a group. Just make it clear you are new and want to learn.

Blessed be the one who is new to this thing...

Yes, the easiest way to learn is to simply start playing. Oh, and get the Player's Handbook.

then download it from Kazaa or something. I know this is illegal and I would never do it, but you could d/l it TILL you get to buy the real one.
And what's wrong with buying from the net? As long as you do it at Amazon or something, there's nothing to worry about.

Hey all and well met!
There are a few solo D20, not specificly DnD, adventures out there that can give you an idea of what the game is like...they are more like the old which way books or choose your fate books.
ANother good place to look is the WoTC Main DND page...
http://www.wizards.com/dnd
There is a LARGE forum there and many articles about the game.
