I don't get the reference... what do you want to know? Which one's better? Because it's difficult to tell unless you list which force powers each build takes and the weapons they're using...

Definitely a powerhouse in fighting, but Force powers make a big impact on combat, and with 16 possible Force powers (one per Gaurdian level) it would be a good idea to show those.

i dont mind an hp tank kind of pc, but I just think its boring because if you are melee oriented, you cant cast powers because they are all either resisted or take a huge chunk from your mana.
Force powers are really what the game is about. I personally like a consular than a guardian, as force focus slaps force jump around, and for 2 feats difference its not worth it. Besides, you get loads of mana and with a high wisdom and/or charisma your powers become really hard to resist, which in turn means enemies will very seldomly get within melee range before theyre either paralyzed, stunned, or dancing around in a whirlwind (which is my personal favorite, by the way)
My consular PC was solely dedicated to kick Malak ass without getting touched, and it worked. Even though I was a lightsider I invested in the plague tree, which I casted and then ran around Malak (who was slowed) until he was a weakling and then I whirlwinded him into oblivion. He had such a hard time saving against me.(I had force breach for his force immunity) I enjoyed watching him die without him even touching the ground.
I have a "jedi kensai" and I wasnt at all impressed with his performance, both in general and against malak. I didnt enjoy the fact that he got hit a lot. I mean, sure he could take the punches, but why would you want that if you can avoid being punched at all. Contrary to most opinions, I think guardians suck. But hey, as always, thats just me and maybe Im missing out.

Whether or not you think that "force powers are what the game is about," or whether tanks are boring, it's a fact that melee absolutely kicks the living crap out of force powers in this game. There is absolutely no way force powers can beat, or match, or even come close to matching the amount of damage you can do with a weapon. It doesn't have anything to do with being hit. You can make a guardian that never gets hit just as easily as you can make a consular that never gets hit. Melee outdamages force powers by about five to one, plain and simple.

Both, in turn, make simple ranged fighting look silly. If the game wasn't so pretty to play, I think a lot of reviewers would have been more inclined to notice the lack of weapons balance.

the thing is that with the amount of blaster fire going on in the game, increasing blaster damage or improving blasters in any other way would have meant a much harder time for your party. Anyway you are supposed to to be much more powerful as a jedi with a lightsaber than with a couple of blasters. I agree in that it is unbalanced, but maybe it was intentionally unbalanced.

It should be harder. If making Blasters stronger would do that fine.

Using ranged weapons on your enemies can be just as good as lightsabres in my experience.
Often I'll start a fight(some of the ones where you have to face a huge number of enemies) by getting all 3 characters to throw grenades(best if your enemies don't see you beforehand) and then fire weapons, especially ion/sonic blasters to knock people out. By the time my enemies reach me, it only takes a couple of of melee hits to finish them off.
And melee isn't obviously better than force powers. (playing it through for a third time) at the point Im at now, using drain on an enemy takes away more health than several turns with melee.
I geuss it just depends on what your enemy can beat you at. If they're stronger with the force they'll resist your stuns, drains etc, but if they're better at melee then you could hit away for ages without doing any damage.

But you didn't just use ranged weapons, did you? You first threw a few grenades, and you finished 'em off with melee. On a direct comparison of melee vs ranged, ranged comes off a bad tenth.

If you're doing more damage with drain than with several rounds of melee then, well, your character's a gimp. Drain does even less damage than lightning. There is no stage in the game where you should be doing less damage with melee than with drain, unless you're deliberately stunting your character.
I'm pretty amazed that you can be bothered manually switching your whole group's weapons back and forth between ranged and melee, though.

thats very true, it isnt really worth the effort, especially considering that most battles are so damn easy.

Re: easy battles
Try out the "Hardcore MOD" can be found here:
http://home.t-online.de/home/Talchia/
Set highest difficulty and enjoy.
There were some battles I had to try 5 times to win.
