OK, my query is if and how to get expelled from the Imperial Legion -

I joined it early on - joined everything - but after some quests, I figured I really dont want to be in it anymore,

and I really get bugged by that "Where's your uniform?" every time I walk past them....and I could do without lugging around the extra weight etc...

But I worry about letting myself get caught stealing or w/e - will it affect my standing in the Imperial Cult?
Or any other disadvantages?

as far as i know you could just attack a guard

that would not lower your standing with the Imperial cult
