I am a newbie and need help.
I am in the Lost Souls area in HotU. It seems that I must fight the 5 characters in the cave. One of them (Lich) seems to be invincible. I am a Ranger.
I have died a thousand deaths. There seems no way ahead and no way back.
Is there a particular item I must have to beat these guys? Or do I keep on fighting?
Will killing the leader be enough?
*SPOILER* HotU - Long Death Room
All of them must die, and I've not found anyway to avoid fighting them.
It is a very hard fight, for many characters, but in my experience taking down the enemies something along the line of the rogue enemy as one of the first, then Grimgnaw and Maugrim.
The "Minatour" (??) barbarian or so never caused me many problems
The lich can be nasty cause he is a high level mage.
But you just have to work around, using what skills you have availeble, henchmen, poitions and what else.
If you have the Sphere from the Beholder Caves (The one with anti-magic) that could possible be a tool for defeating the Lich - although I've never had much luck using that sphere.

I don't know if you are still in need of help/checking this thread, but I just finished beating the Long Death gang as a Ranger. I'm not sure why you had such trouble with the lich, he wasn't hard for me to damage at all. The person who dealt me the most damage was the rogue with her hard hitting sneak attacks.
Basically, I went from the monk to the lich, then the rogue, the minotaur, and finally the mage. I was dual wielding a short-sword and a rapier, both upgraded with a +8 enhancement bonus, keen, and acid damage. One was upgraded to give me spell resistance and the other to permanently haste me. I had a DEX modifier of 13 and a STR modifier of 7.
I think it was a combination of all of those things that helped me to win the fight. In the final stages of the game, you have to be able to overcome damage resistance/reduction. That means finding or upgrading to a weapon with a high enhancement bonus and shooting for the highest possible modifiers for dexterity and strength.

Reviving this thread as since my attempts result in death, Aribeth and Deekin tend to survive and do inflict some damage though as yet killed nobody, my spells seem to do no damage whatsoever, can't go back and get Aribeth's weapon upgraded now that I actually have the money to do that. Anyone have any good strategy's to use?
