ranger--->cleric

i'm trying out the powerful ranger-->cleric class. he will probably end up dual wielding FoA and the Crom.
the question is, when should i change from the ranger to the cleric? i have ToB installed so an exp cap isn't going to be a problem. if i dual over at level 9, is he just going to end up a cleric who can dual wield?
advice?

even if you dual at 13 (to get an extra 1/2 attack, which i higly recommend) you'll have enough XP to get to where you want:
ran 13 - 1,250,000 XP
cle 14 - 1,350,000 XP
total - 2,600,000 XP
your maxed-attacks duel-weilding destroyer will be casting those 7 lelvel spells before SoA is over!

I dualled my ranger cleric at 9 and he was fine. as long as he has one spell level when you dual he will get druid spells as the cleric levels grow

Well...
Personally, I think that cleric/ranger multi is significantly zippier with ToB - having those HLA spells, plus fighter pool HLAs = OUCH!
That being said, dual at 9, 12, or 13 will all be ok. Stick cleric buffs onto your already good THAC0 and watch out!

I would dual at lev.9: clerics gets so many buffing spell that you don't need the extra Thac0 and HP, not being able to have mastery means you don't need too many prof. points and a ranger dualled to cleric at 9 will have (too) many of'em, and I would not trade an 1/2 attack for around 4 cleric level.
Apart from the fact that you will be getting HLA much earlier, 4 lev means more spells, stronger spells (specially if you have installed "spell 50"), better turning undead, and those benefit will be particoulary important in SoA, where you are a mid lev. char. (dualling at 13 you will play as low lev. ranger for a third of the game, as a low lev. cleric for a third of the game and only in the last part you will be a mid lev. R/C, while dualling at 9 you will be playing a third of the game as a low lev. char, a third as a mid lev. R/C and the rest as a high lev R/C).
As a last suggestion don't be crazy for Crom, at mid/high lev DUHM will raise your str. to 25 (and dex/con as well) for long time, so I would give that weapon to other char. that will need those benefit more, instead don't pass over clubs (if you dual wield) and staff, specially if you choose a stalker to dual to cleric you can backstab with those weapon (a backstabb with staff of the Ram +6 from a char. with 25 of str. ouch!!!).

Note that if you have ToB installed Stalkers (and Archers) are no longer able to dual class to Clerics.

99%... I'll test it to be sure, but the last time I tried it wasn't possible.
Edit:
Ok, tested and verified: Stalkers can't dual to clerics (at least with ToB+latest patch installed). I created a human Stalker with sufficient ability scores for dualing, but the dual class button is greyed out.

Unless you are going to use stealth a lot (and you should) there is no need to dual at level 9. Dual at level 7, or at level 13 for the extra half attack. It wont make a difference thac0wise so it depends on how long you are prepared to wait.
Personally I would dual at level 7 or nine... probably 7 since I am impatient

I think that to get the druidic spell you need to get to a lev where ranger start to gain spells, which I think is 8.
So to have a char able to cast all the divine spells you need to dual at least at lev. 8, and the extra lev for the HP/prof. point will cost little more than 100k exp, but that is finesse.
Definetly I don't suggest to dual after lev. 9.

You don't need to be level 8 to get druidic spells. There will be hardly any difference in hp's. Maybe one or two in the end. A ranger dualed to cleric don't need extra proficiencies. You'll be specialized in every weapon a cleric can use anyway.
The only reason to dual at nine is for the extra stealth.

Umm..
Dualing at 9 (or 12) -if dual you must - will get you an extra weapon star, which may be significant to you.
Also, remember, in many of the game mods & patches Grand Mastery has been restored and may be available to rangers & paladins.
