started a char in SoA alignment of Chaotic Good and took him all the way into ToB still at the start of it but I noticed that my alignment has changed to Lawful Evil. Just wondering what might have caused this.

You took an evil path in the trials of hell!

As Stilgar said. For most of BG2, alignment plays no part at all. Then you come to the hell trials, and suddenly a single obscure choice can make anybody "evil." It's silly, but KotoR's allocation of LSPs and DSPs is even sillier.

My 2 gp on this one...
The bit that bugs me, is that good characters will turn evil (and fall, if applicable) if taking the evil choices, but no contrary effect occurs to Evil characters making the good choices.
Grrr...

There was one lengthy thread in the KotoR forum where we ended up detailing many of the plot points where Bioware's allocated LSP/DSP awards (or lack of same) ranged from tenuous in their logic to downright weird. Just one example: if you duel Bendak Starkiller, a dueller who craves duels-to-the-kill, you get DSPs, but if you loot families in their apartments on Taris (they plead with you for mercy), you don't.
The bit that bugs me, is that good characters will turn evil (and fall, if applicable) if taking the evil choices, but no contrary effect occurs to Evil characters making the good choices.
I vaguely recall some quote from Shaw's play, The Devil's Disciple, to the effect of "That's the sweet thing about good. The higher you go, the easier it is to fall."
I suspect (just my opinion--nothing to back this up) that the Bioware devs decided to factor in alignment very late in development. Otherwise, they could have used some numerical system, like Planescape: Torment, to measure your good/evil and chaotic/order-prone responses to events throughout the game.

This is exactly what the Revised Hell Trials Mod does
and yes, falling to evil should still be easier than ascending to good, with that mod (if I'm not mistaken).
It also adds a "neutral" path for each test.
The Virtue Mod should also support Revised Hell Trials, so I suggest to grab them both

Well darn! It happened me to!!! But how am I going to say it?
"Well Aerie, my love. I'm sorry, but I'm evil now so I have to leave you for Viconia. Please don't kick me in the but Minsc. It wasn't my fault. But anyway... SO LONG SUCKERS!"
That's just downright bad... But wt, I don't care. It doesn't matter, I can still be good altough I am evil, right?

Yeah. The alignment system in BG is not very good. I usually just choose one alignment and then forget all about it.
I know I've said this before, but the alignment system in Planescape: Torment makes much more sense. And what would make even more sense, IMHO, would be to take the whole system out. I haven't missed it for one second in Morrowind, for example.

Yes, why not? The trials aren''t very hard anyway.
