Thieves and fighters

The Balmora Fighters Guild wants me to recover some code book from Sottilde in the Thieves Guild. No problem there.
But I am also a respected member of the little gang of thieves, so she won't give me the book. Are there any other ways to get the book? Because I don't want to kill Sottilde.

You can try pick-pocketing her. Or simply ignore this quest - it's not necessary to make Master of the Fighters' Guild.

Whew, that was a quick response. Thanks.
I guess I'll just have to pickpocket her, because I want to become master in both Fighter and Thieves Guilds.

I just realised my original post could be mis-interpreted. I meant that you don't have to do this quest for the Fighters' Guild in order to become Master. If you get far enough in the Thieves' Guild quests, this quest will even get dropped.

Or, you can also use the CLUA to edit it in ( if you are comfortable with a slight cheat

)
Hit the
~ key
Type in exactly as written below:
'player -> AddItem "bk_sottildescodebook" 1'
I did this yesterday because I didn't realise you could literally work your way around it...

LOL! I'm sure the poor people of Balmora will put the spiffy armor to good use. I just hope you didn't start a rebellion!
But you should feel guilty.

Even though you didn't steal the code book, you essentially copied it. Now the Fighters Guild has the Thieves’ codes! And worse, they don't even know that their codes have been compromised! Those poor Thieves. They are in a war against the Morag Tong, and you just let the Fighters Guild weaken them further! You should be ashamed...

lol! I hope I did start a rebellion! *hoists up red flag on top of the rat-infested house*
*sigh* Well... the thieves guild are on the side of the Imperials and the Morag Tong is the indigenous syndicate as it were. So basically I'm just helping the cause of the original inhabitants all round...

Yes, I can see it now. Led by a single hero in Spiffy Armor, the poor of Balmora rises up in mass against the complacent Hlaalu Lords. The Imperials are called in to crush the rebellion, placing Balmora under military rule. Many die, leaving the children of the poor rebels alone, with no means to support themselves save slaving away in the egg mines of far Gnissis.
Why don't you just join the Morag Tong and put your Thieves Guild out of their misery?

That's it, I could join the Morag Tong and spend my time looting the Imperial Cult and Legion, thus providing good armor and weapons to the impoverished so they aren't reliant on a single set of armor

Now that's a good Roll Playing plan!

Wouldn't it be great if you really could play the game like that?

No, no, they're in a war against the
Camonna Tong, not the Morag Tong. The former is the native Thieves' Guild, whereas the latter is the native Assassin's Guild, who are far too concerned with the Dark Brotherhood to be bothered with any thieves, native or otherwise.

Just ask Caius Cossades - he'll straighten you out

@Gwalchmai:
I noticed you used word Roll Playing in this thread and before in some other. Hope you don't mind me asking but was that intentional or just a typo? That is, does Roll Playing refer to dice rolling which is used traditionally in role playing games?

Yep, this is good example about the greatness (SP?) of this game. You don't necessarily need to blindly follow every order you get and do quests as they were presented to you, rather do what is smart or decent thing in your opinion (whatever your motivator is...) Another example is how certain fighter's guild member in Ald'ruhn (sp?) comments about quests given by another fighter's guild member.

ROFL! This must be the thread where everyone points out my mistakes! Yes, I meant Role-playing in the thespian sense of taking on a character and acting according to the character's motivations rather than simply trying to 'win' the game or complete every quest absolutely 'correctly.' I knew it looked strange to me spelt "Roll Playing," but I am usually more concerned with spelling errors (I often run my posts through a word processor before submitting). I am also posting from work and couldn't spend much time pondering what was wrong with how I wrote it. Thanks for correcting me.

Oh, no no no no no... By all means, my intention was not to point out your mistake nor correct you in any way. I just wondered if it was a typo or a new term I hadn't heard before (imagine how silly I would look if I had started using term Roll Playing

)

And.... my
other editor chimes in....
(Mmmmmm. Breakfast....)
Moleman: No, it was just a mistake produced by a clouded mind...
