I got the original and loved it. still play it. 2003 was good, looked stunning, but not as good IMO - no real imagination and a crap internet conection ruined it for me.
but I've got the 2004 demo. it has a variety of modes, one map each.
including onslaught mode.
one map, one link setup.
I have played assault once. no deathmatch, no CTF, no bombing run. but I have played that one onslaught map more times than I can remember. it is quite simply stunning. online with humans would be even better, but still, it's one of the best things to happen to the series ever.
love it.

We were playing Onslaught at a LAN party; it rocks. Of course, that was only the demo.
I picked up the full version last week, but I have to wait until next weekend to try it out against my friends.
The vehicles rock and it plays like multiplayer Halo should have played; Halo was slow and felt like a console game. UT2004 blows it away.

re: halo
damn straight. I have never been a halo fan - the weaons, graphics, gameplay, they weren't particularly impressive as far as I was concerned - but the vehicles rocked. now there's a game with even better vehicles, and I feel strangely vindicated in my halo-apathy.

You are going to be so impressed by the amount that they have added to the game from the demo..i Mean seriously, i was impressed by that demo..but the game just is about 1000 times better.

I still prefer the original UT over the latest versions. The newer ones, I feel, have taken too much away from what I liked about the original, and packaged it in a flashier case. To me, the speed in which the game plays is ridiculous, most of the weapons horrible ineffective (And before anyone says it, I am an avid FPS player, and quite talented at them as well, so I do know how to make use of whatever I'm given), and the gameplay itself to easily swayed to a single side. I mean, one person shouldn't be able to make as a big a difference in a game of onslaught as it seems to in UT2K4.
Not only that, but the level designs are lack luster, at best. They look impressive, but they don't play as impressively.
And I won't even get started on how much I hate the ingame voice chat... Now every pre-pubecent twit with a mic can be heard. Nothing ruins a game like incessant shouts of 'Newb"

"Owned" is quite popular as well.

And why is CS praised so much, seeing as it's responsible for this talk...

actually, I'll think you'll find it's 13-year-olds who are responsible. Herod had the right idea...

Indeed, it is 13 year olds, but the catch is, is that they were 13 year olds, that played CS non-stop...

unfortunately i have never played the earlier ones and have only had experience as of late..but i have really ejjoyed it and i promice that i am not one of those newbs you speak of..
can't you just put them on your ignore friends list..i think that the CS features in the game are one of the nicer things about it
