has anyone else wondered whether or not the game developers were heavily influenced by
Jurassic Park?
Seriously, so many of the beasties in Morrowind look as though they belong in a dinosaur safari park that I half expect I'm going to be attacked by a T Rex upon entering a Daedric Shrine!

Yes, I've noticed. The landscape is also very jurassic, with overgrown mushrooms, palms and mangroves. It's a complete departure from Arena and Daggerfall, where things were really grim and gothic. I think it's on purpose, to make Morrowind look like a separate continent.

I never thought of that, but now that you mention it... sure there is some similarities. Lanscape and some plants also look like they would be from jura-period (or they look similar as artist have drawn for backround of dinosaurs).
But those big mushrooms remind me of
smurfs... So it's like Jurassic Park meets Smurfs
Edit: oops, I didn't notice that Moonbiter's post when I wrote mine. And I wrote almost the same thing. Man do I look stupid now...

Don't worry, Moleman... your comments don't make you look stupid. That Smurf link does, though
They really did want Morrowind to look different from Arena and Daggerfall... and then they did want Solstheim to look different from Morrowind! Love that polar landscape...

Hey, those Smurfs make me remember happier times, when all I had to worry was which solar system I will jump next with my Cobra Mk III. Good times -- no bills, no home and car downpayments, no work-related stress and burnout symptoms... OK, I better stop here before I start scaring people - or is it too late?
I have Bloodmoon installed but I actually haven't yet visited Solstheim (started new game when I got Bloodmoon, I though it might be a good idea to build up my character before I go hunting werewolves...) But reading about the landscape I have gotten curious. I think I will drop by there when I get away from THIS BLOODY OFFICE...

Dinos-shaped beasts seem popular with these games... Gothic has a few of those, and Gothic 2 has several more. And they look like REAL raptors, not just like balloons with jaws as in Morrowind. I wonder why this is so...
Hmm, too bad I don't know how to make skins... An archer or spellsword Smurf would be awesome! *LOL*

Just for the fun of it, I thought I might swim over to Solstheim, having recently installed Bloodmoon. Yeah, that's right, I said
swim. The trip was rather uneventful, except for the six dreugh that attacked me all at once.
Once there, I found that the native beasts take on a much more mammalian form. I haven't met a dino yet. A couple of tree-girls, sure, but they have more of a Quaternary look to them rather than Triassic.
