All the trolls I've loved before (favorite monsters post)

...because I feel like it...

Favorite monsters:

Trolls - just classic D&D monsters, always reliable for xp even at higher levels, violent, evil and - hey - they regenerate! Gotta love it!

Giant crayfish - where do these guys come from? Just the idea of these things is comic and awesome at the same time - they appear in the misddle of forests for cryin' out loud! I love 'em - and especially the muted little sound their claws make when they attack. Good stuff.

Odd monsters:

Lacedons - what the hell is a lacedon anyway? Is it undead? Anyway, they make a cooing sound like pigeons, and that's real weird, too. They're easy to kill and stop earning you xp early on, but they sound so gentle when they die...

Least favorites:

Various puddings and slimes - anything that requires me to change from my bladed weapons to my blunt weapons is a pain in the behind!

Ogres - considering the damage they can do and the numbers they appear in, it irks me that my 10th level party can't earn xp for slaying them.

Most dangerous:

Ettins - crikey! These guys can do a ton of damage - 4 attacks, right? And hill giants, too - only two attacks, but they really pack a wallop.

Most common in the wild:

Skeletons (yawn), lizardmen and giant lizards (yawn), skeleton gnolls (yawn), bandits and pirates (ahoy, matey!), and trolls (yea!).

Most rare:

Black bears - I have gotten one and only one black bear encounter in every game I've played - what are they, a CRPG endangered species?

Feels good to finally post this and get it out of my system!

*goes back to playing*

True - but the grating sound they make when hit with a bladed weapon drives me crazy - love hearing them get clobbered with a quarterstaff though - but you're right - they appear in droves and cough up a lot of xp.
