dos game and SVGA

I've tried installing an old dos game of mine on my new machine. I'm running XP and have a fairly reasonable computer. The problem is, that when I try to run the set up for the game it says it needs an SVGA card for the game to run. Consequently I can't play it. I was hoping someone might know a way to solve this little problem.
