Well, I'm using Fighter/Wizard, and doing well.

Why bard/figher? Songs are mainly to buff party members.
I think fighter/sorcerer (or wizzard) would be a good choice.
And a race with magicresistance (drow) would be a good choise as well.

I solo'd HoF mode with a level 30 Drow Fighter/Wizard. Aside from some rocky points, I made it through alright. Though, the items I gained were ver yhelpful, specifically the Chain mail that lets you cast magic with no penalty. That was a god send.

solo
My 2 cents say a cleric or cleric multi-class. (maybe Barbarian).
You normally use a cleric to heal your party, but with in solo, you only heal your self, think how much you can get done in one day without resting. You can were armour and cast. (mostly deffensive spells but not always).
I just find clerics tanks in IceWind Dale2. Most likly to multiclass.
Have Fun

Because bards have healing spells, can buff themself up, have other usefull spells, some usefull skills, the fighter levels to make him better at melee combat.
i'll see if it works when I try

@Aegis, could you post your stat's/skills feats etc. from the beginning and in the end? I'm very curious what kind of character you played.
The problem with IWD2 is that i ALWAYS have a maximum number of party members. cause I would rather have 8 then 5.
But I'm thinking of a 2man drow team (wel actually a drow male and female) at the moment.

Oi. I'll have to reinstall to pull up the file. But, I do remember the levels. 17 Fighter/ 13 Wizard.
If I get around to installing the game (unless someone can tell me an alternate way of pulling this stuff up), I'll post his stats, and feats, and ending equipment.

I think a straight sorcerer would be a great solo character. I have one right now that's level 19 and working with a party in Heart of Fury mode. I'm still in chapter 1, but he can run around the map, collect a bunch of mobs, and then nuke the hell out of them with delayed fireball and Horrid wilting. It's quite fun!
Dualling him with a fighter would make a good solo char too I imagine. What's the level limit with a dual or triple class character?

druid
i'm currently going through HoF with two drow sorcerers. One is necromancy/death spells, the other is pure self-enhancing - i.e. mirror, bull's, cats, spirit armor, haste, stoneskin, blur, trollish fortitude, and tensor's. awesome combo, but only works with the pair. If you were going to go solo, I would recommend nothing as strongly as a druid. great healing, devastating high level spells, good summons for support, infinitely variable (can memorize spells for each situation), and decent melee with shapechange. every time i've been though that monk quest with the different rooms, my druid does it every time because they can do anything.
