Assassin as PC?

Post by Ollamnh »

After years of gaming, I've still never played an assassin, but I'm sick of altruistic world saving. So after rolling for a while, I've created a kick-ass CE gnome assassin.

Questions: 1: Are there enough NPCs who'll get along with a CE to make a party? After Yoshimo, Korgan and Viconia, who?

2: Any hints on surviving long enough to build said party?

The obvious party for your assassin should be, Viconia, Haer'dalis, Korgan, Edwin and Cernd. My favourite evil party infact. With the thiefs fast levelling the npcs will be high level when you get them so you will be very powerful straight away.

i love playing assassins.
and a good tip to get through the first parts is put alot in Hide in Shadows.
Backstab is obvious the best skill of the assassin so u have to make sure u are able to backstab often.
and it is very handy in the beginning because u can also easely sneak past enemies u don't want or can fight.

No problem on the NPC side:

Jahiera, Haer'Dalis, Jan, Cernd, and Yoshimo are all Neutral od some sort. They don't get mad unless your rep goes all the way down, and by that point the game is just about unplayable.

About staying alive - buy good gear. Use the steal-sell-steal trick and ge tlots of money, then buy the best gear for yourself and the party. Also, you can exploit the game and use the spell memorization trick to gain experience. For example, get Aerie or Nalia into the party, steal a buttload of scrolls around Athkatla, buy a couple of potions of genius and have her drink them, then memorize a ton of spells. The while party shares in the XP. Once done, let her go since you don't want that goody two shoes in the party. It is an exploitation, but its worth a level or two if you do it early.

Otherwise, I strongly agree with The Dude. Bruce Lee also has a point about your compatriots. I'd suggest going mostly solo through all the easy and XP-intensive quests, then pick up the compatriots once they have leveled a few times on their own. Also, you might want to pick them up right before you polish off a quest like the Mae'Var operation. Everybody gets about 70,000 XP when you talk to Renal for the last time. It's an especially good time to dual class Yoshimo to a fighter - instant 7th level. :D
