Good Movies That You Hate

So how many of you here have seen movies that you recognise as being very good, yet you can't bring yourself to watch? Or maybe you even walked out of the theatre when you went to see them.
For me it was The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover.
A superb film on many levels. but after more and more cumulatively grotesque scenes I finally couldn't take anymore when it reached the fork incident (those of you have seen the movie will know what I mean).

As I read the title of this thread, I thought of exactly the same film. That is too spooky!
It was many years ago when I saw it, I recall lots of red, not an easy film to watch.

Too many to mention, but here's a few:
Steel Magnolias
Forrest Gump
The Piano
The English Patient

lol! that is surreal!

Yes... I can often watch films that deliver a kick in the gut (sometimes several times over), but not that one... *shudder*
Too much red, too much black.. just too much.
@Moonbiter, I had a similar reaction with
Steel Magnolias. Though unlike the above film I can watch it through

Well, it's a hard one, isn't it? Fezzing up to the fact that you hate something that everyone likes. In fact, I think I'm gonna create a thread in your honour!

Another movie I disliked but yet is considered very good would be A Beautiful Mind...
I can't say why, but it really bothered me. It's not because of the fact that it deals with psychological problems, I loved Quills which can also be quite a rough ride.
I think maybe it is something that The Cook and A Beautiful Mind share.. there is very little relief. Both movies are unremittingly intense.
It's always hard to say, since the way we respond to movies is so incredibly subjective.

How to define "Good Movies"?

As I'm a Tolkien geekboy and all that, I can understand the LoTR thing, though I don't agree with it. I'll give you my biggest peeve:
Titanic.

Good point, but that ain't what she/we're after. I watched Titanic just to see Leo die and float. I got a presentation of manure acting that still wakes me in a cold sweat. It's still a good movie.
I think the one movie that I've seen lately which is fantastic but I couldn't, for various reasons, watch to the end was Requiem For A Dream.

It could be a generational thing, but I
really hated
Gone With the Wind. Probably because by the end I was itching to strangle Scarlett O'Hara.....

Apocalypse Now. The movie itself is great, acting story, and everything, and I used to love it. But now that I know the connections it has to Joseph Conrad, and it's length, I have trouble sitting through more than 45 minutes of the movie

Trainspotting. Never got past the intro toilet scene..

Trainspotting can be hard sometimes but I am a big fan.
Requiem For A Dream is really hard to watch..
I'd say Space Oddysy 2001 can be so damn vauge it pisses me off.
Romper Stomper (Any Russel Crowe fans should check it out) can be annoying..

I'm not quite sure what to make of this topic. Is it about "movies that everyone else likes but you hate" or is it about "movies that you think are bad but that doesn't stop other people from liking them"?
In any case, the first thing that popped into my head was this. All of the
Star Wars movies, while entertaining on many levels, are really pretty bad, and frankly, I don't understand their overwhelming appeal. Luke was a whiner, but Anakin is an even bigger one. Is that supposed to be appealing? Here's a suggestion for the title of the next installment:
Star Wars III: I Want My Mama!

The Tiatanic
Saving Private Ryan ( I am a huge War Movie fan, but after the initial scene this one just lost it for me.)
On Golden Pond
Anna and the King
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Anything with Jim Carey in it
