...as the reach weapons are to powerfull in TOEE - especially compared to other 2-handed weapons there is a way to give your greatswords a reach effect:


1. open the protos.tab with an editor

2. go to: 4012 obj_t_weapon

3. in this line you have to change greatsword to guisarme - for the best possible attack animation (cleaving) - everything else looks like using a greatsword - besides the ten feet reach !


...and from now on the hommlet blacksmith will sell you masterwork greatswords with reach !


...if you want to change other greatswords search for line 4011 or 4019 !


...btw. there you can change all weapon / item stats (damage, critical range, CR dam. modifier, and so on) but this might be a little bit to cheesy !

for katanas it is the same as a bastard sword but it does not let you use it as a one handed weapon with exotic weapon bastard sword

i think they shud at least make the critical from x2 to x3 and the threat range from 19-20 to 17-20

how can i do this on my game?

you can make these changes with the BS - search for BS in the protos.tab there should be 3 - 5

look for the text in the line - there is fragarach and a masterwork one...


in the middle of the line you will find something like this:


3 D20DT_SLASHING 1d10 guisarme 20


in this case the 3 is the critical hit multiplier, 1d10 is the damage and the 20 is the crit range...


what I didn't find out is how to change the katana - cause I haven't found one in the protus.tab...

...maybe if you find more then one masterwork BS - one of them could be the katana... but I haven't checked this...


...just wanted a Greatsword with reach for my whirlwinding "Kensai" - and this works fine (minor problem is only that the greatsword gets the attack animation from the guisarme) !

Where can I find the edtior?

Where can I get the extractor or Editor to pull out the protos.tab? Or is there a place I can just manually download the protos.tab?

if you have the Co8 patch installed you find it under

- data
- rules

you could open it with any editor or wordpad:

thanks man, is there a certain order I should do with TOEE's patch and the co8 patch or just apply them both in any order? again, thanks alot

1st the official Atari patch

2nd the Co8 patch


but make a back-up before editing the prosus.tab

Hrmm. When I try and give scather reach I go to line 4016 for scather in the protos.tab and change where it says bastard_sword to guisarme and save it, i have a backup, but whenever i start the game with the change, it executes then imediately quits to desktop. If i dont make any changes its fine. I was careful not to make any other changes. Left the same number of spaces in there so as not to change the file size.. I have no idea why it doesnt like it. tried it 2-3 times same problem each time. Is there another number or something I have to change when changing bastard_sword to guisarme?

sorry guys, i figured it out and it wont let me delete my post, wordpad kept adding 2kb to the file size even if i opened it, made no change, and saved it.. prolly a formatting thing.. when i made the change through notepad everything worked great.
