Eventually there are many bows and good ones....I have sold many as i only have 2/6 party members that use them.

i have not tried an archer, but played arounfd a bit.

I'm currently playing an Archer. She's got 5* in Long Bow and is currently using Ripper +2. She's quite deadly, though it does seem a bit odd to me sometimes since I had her using Crossbows in BG1.

Well, Beast master is No good at all, unless you like fighting dragons with sticks however.

Stalker is my personal favourite, backstab and the like, can cause nasty damage. There are plenty of good leathers out there.

Archer, same dealy, but can really put the hurt on from range. It really depends on your style and who you want in your party.

You might want to start off with prof in Shortbow for your archer, that way strength isnt a big deal, and tuigans bow with the extra attack per round can cause major damge, plus, the bows that require no ammow are short bows.

Archer and stalker are both better than straight ranger imo. For powergaming reasons use shortbows or crossbows with your archer.

Archers are slightly more powerful than stalkers - with bows anyway (duh).
Of course, stalkers are better at sneaking and they can backstab. Give your stalker Celestial Fury and he becomes quite dangerous.
Archers more feel like supporting fighters which always felt weird to me since your char is the hero(ine) of the story.
