How does she do that? [Spoiler] Final battle, Druids Grove.

Post by Scrim »

So, I finally completed the Druids Grove. I had Jaheira battle the Queen Shadow Druid. Jaheira is at level 12.

My plan of attack was to hit quickly to interrupt any spell casting. Jaheira cast a Cause Critical Wounds and then went after her. She hit within the first two rounds causing 27 pts of damage and disrupting spells in progress. After the hit, Jaheira shap-shifted to a bear to continue the attack. The Druid Queen quickly went down to near death, and then she was all of the sudden "un-injured". I didn't see (or read that) she cast a cure spell (I think I would have interrupted it). I continued the attack until the Druid Queen was again near death, and then once again she was "un-injured". But this time she shifted into a panther and killed Jaheira.

Well, I re-did the battle again with a slightly different strategy. Again the Druid Queen made miraculous recoveries. It wasn't until the third try that Jaheira persevered.

Does anybody know the Druid Queen healed herself?

Many thanks...

I have never had her heal herself. Then again I am a fan of the insect plague summon a ton of elementals and then shapeshift.

That always seems to work for me.

heal spell...

this is why summon insects should be the first spell jaheira or cernd casts, to disrupt her own spell casting... :p

Yes, but I didn't summon anything. The Druid Queen didn't get much past her Iron Skin before I hit by using Jaheira as a tank (instead of a spell caster). It looked as if I was hitting her almost every round. Heal spells have a full round casting time, and I didn't "see" her conjure (you never know though, eh?).

I just wonder if the AI script skipped a bit when things didn't initially progress as expected.

Who knows. Maybe I eventually lucked out....

Was this the original version or the new and outrageously difficult without cheese improved Faldorn, c/o Tactics?

Either way maybe she has a regeneration spell up and running.

Faldorn healing ability

Not sure what version of Faldorn the game uses for the druid pit fight but one (CEFALD01) gives her two memorized Heal spells which restores her to full health when used. I would suspect that this is the version of her that you fight in the pit. I always hit her with insect plague then summon a fire elemental to help out. You can also give Jahiera some weapons, like Belm, after she is in the pit. Just pause the game and open the inventory screens. Now you can give her her armor, weapons, maybe a genie bottle, some healing potions, a haste potion, whatever you like to make sure she destroys Faldorn.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. To answer the version question... The install is vanilla with the ToB official patch and the Balderdash Bug Fix. This is my first time ever playing this.

One thing my 10yr old mentioned (he's farther along than I) is that it looks as if Faldorn starts off by casting Regeneration on herself (Being a Harry Potter buff, he has memorized all the SoA spells from the incantations (sound files)... He also knows what all the graphic visuals represent).

.... But, I don't see how this would allow her to go from Near Death to Uninjured in an instant. She probably snuck in a Heal Spell.

Cheers.....

Improve haste Jaheira before sending her in. If you hit a lot and deal a lot of damage regeneration/heal won't really matter too much :D

Insect Plague/Creeping Doom makes it even easier.

Guard Button Super Cheese
Now here is one that is truly fiendish.....certain npcs, like Keldorn and Mazzy, have this button on their screen that resembles a shield... have Keldorn or Mazzy equipped with a ranged weapon, like long bow, then buff up a fighter, like Minsc or Saravok, (who can also do this trick) and send him into a room full of monsters, and close the door behind them...click on the guard button of the support ranged fighter, then click on the meelee fighter sent into the room alone, the ranged fighter is now "guarding" the meelee fighter, but he/she cannot be reached thru the closed door...so the ranged fighter will now FIRE THRU THE WALLS in support of the meelee fighter he/she has been assigned to guard...any enemies that the guarded npc attacks will be shot by the ranged fighter if it is within range of the ranged fighter...
tips
this is almost tailor made for abuse, like when you get solafein, you can dimention door him into a room full of nastys and guard him with minsc. activate greater deathblow by minsc, and the slaughter is disgusting....long bows are the best weapon for this, since the long bow range is the best in the game....also, and now we just get really evil, you can guard summons like mordenkainen swords, skeleton warriors, invisible stalkers and such...use wizard eye or farsight to keep control of your summons, send them into a room full of mind flayers, have minsc activate greater deathblow, and add up the experience points....any summons capable of attacking is a valid guardable target. now specific examples....remember gorf the squisher who duels mazzy when you get to the copper coronet? when the duel happens, mazzy is stripped of all her good equipment, but use the guard button with minsc or keldorn, and gorf dies fast...this is also good for the druid grove duel, with faldorn....making the guarded npc, invulnerable to attack, using protection from magic weapons and mislead, just adds to the fun....and you knew i love cheating on duels of honor.
:D :D :D

She doesn't have very many HPs anyway and regeneration works really fast.

Want to know how to make the vanilla version of the fight very easy? Highlight to read: have someone cast improved invisibilty on Jaheira before the fight.

i had the exact same problem when i was soloing my monk. i was in Lord Jierdan Firkraag's dungeon and fighting wearwolfs and got all of them to near death and then all of a sudden they were full health.
