Best way to become ArchMage??

subject question, i finished finding the 3 book and the last of skink in the trree quest,what do i do?
fight archmage in arena
or give him the letter from ocato?

I prefer to fight him, since his staff is cool for killing clusters of creatures. The best one I can think of is those 5 spriggins on Solsthiem...

bUT someone mention thats better not to kill him first,do all the quests,let him retire,then taunt him to fight so u can get the amultet and weapions.U get mrore reputation.

If give him the letter from Skink in Tree he will stick around until you finish the main quest. After the main quest talk to him again and he will give you one last quest. He wants you to kill all the Telvanni councilors. Do that and he gives you his staff and amulet and leaves the game. I don't think he will give you this final mage quest if you are in House Telvanni though. Personally I don't care about his amulet as I already have a CE amulet that is better IMO. So I always wait and kill the Telvanni, get his stuff and stash it away. Besides killing Trebonius in the Arena is not a very challenging or satisfying fight - the guy is weak and is a retard and picking on him doesn't seem fair.
