Hi, I've seen a few posts where people say they like berserkers. Especially in reference to say starting as a human berserker and dualing to a cleric or mage.

I have a couple questions about that though - my only experience with berserking so far is with Minsc. However, I tend to never use it for two reasons:

1) When he goes berserk, I lose control of him

2) Inevitably, he ends up attacking another party member.

So to me, berserk seems like confusion with a sugar coating ... but I don't know if his berserk is different from a real berserker (seeing as he's really a Ranger, who somehow has the ability to go berserk). I've seen some people talk about casting spells while berserk - but how can you do that if you don't have control of him?

So - is a real berserker's berserk different from Minsc's berserk? And if not, how is it that you can cast spells? Or stop him/her from attacking a party member?

Berserker rage is different ~ it is controllable unlike Minsc's. It's very useful in a variety of situations, the only disadvantages being the after-effects (and perhaps that it just doesn't last long enough ).

Dualing a berserker to a mage would give some more flexibility than a kensai-mage (armor, helmets, bracers) and with the added bonus of the non-imprisonable rage, it could well be argued that berserker-mages (lvl 12, for instance) make some of the best fighter mage characters.

I'd like to try a berserker-cleric multi (with some schmukery in SK); that would be interesting...

from a roleplaying perspective, a berserker mage isn't really a viable option, but they do make bloody good characters.

berserker druid dual wielding belm and any item upgrade club

the only way u can get advantage with minsc bezerk is to look him up in a room full with goens with the rest of your partybehind some door and just let him demolisch everything on is path and afters hi's finished and all else is death go back to him.
bezerk is great when u can controll it thought everything falls really fast when berzerked and really dualed to a mage it is heaven to play with

I was turned off berserkers because of Minsc, but the more I read posts recommending them, the more I thought there must be more to it ...

I'm actually considering the berserker->cleric option. I think that at least makes some sense from a role-play perspective ... berserker feels guilty after the rage ends - decides to learn how to heal people as penance!

As for a mage, I think I'll start with the Archer (from the tactics mod) for that one. Again, I think that one makes sense role-play-wise, and would still be a deadly combo.

Reminds me of the Arcane Archer Prestige class available in NWN
And a Berserker/Cleric would be a viable option for a follower of Malar or even Tempus, but unfortunately you can only choose between 3 deities in BG2.
