If you are dual weilding then you can make a great argument for celestial fury being better.

The "best weapon" debate has been discussed in several threads over the past few years. Here is just one that I found using a forum search:

I think CF is just more versatile, and Carsy is a bit more designed for strong-puch-fighters. So, if you are playing a thief, plain, forget it. But as a Kensai, the mr from Carsy may help you a bit. I'm playing a Wizard slayer dualed to thief, for UAI, and using Carsy, wich has made my mr jump to 100% (calculated that).

Sooo nice, no longer anoyed with magelings.

celestial fury is best...

its not just for dual wield, its the unstoppable, magic resistance ignoring stun effect...awesome...

try celestial main hand and purifier off hand for you pallys...you get almost the same magic resistance..

the +5 version with item upgrade is just fun... :p

i dont duel weild i use single weapon style for the AC bonus since the kensai cannot use armor. even with the use all items ability i will only use bracers of armor.

well i got my celestial fury, a wand of lightning, and a demon heart, so u guys think it is worth it to spend my money for CF +5?
all i had to do for Carsomyr was kill a dragon...

BTW: if u have Aerie cast "Champion's Strength" and "Holy Power" she becomes a POWERHORSE!!!!!

hmmm i did some test with the both of them using SK to give 5 proficiency slots for each and then using kai strike....

Carsomyr: 37 damage, dispel magic, gives me 50% magic resistance, slower

Celestial Fury: 28 damage, stuns opponents, 5% chance to add 20 more electric damage, +2 AC for weapon style, faster

The daikatana for me :D It stuns everything. I just make sure the person wielding it is not dire charmed/dominated otherwise my party would be in dire straits

well i decided on celestial fury.
slashing weapons dont affect clay golems, so i use celestial fury to stun them while Aerie kills em with the Staff of Magi.

speaking of wich, i just received. HARD FIGHT! but the Carsomyr helped me out. even with no prifiency i was still able to dispell magic on the spellcasters and whip out my celestial fury to kill em. time stop is a pain tho, that is y having 50% magic resistance is good. so i come to the conclusion....use both! :D

Why on earth do you not wear armour? *boggle*- though even with those, you should do OK

Even without it, I would go Celestial Fury/Sanchuudoku if you're likely to get hit, or CF/Crom for the STR or CF/Axe of the Unyielding or CF/Belm or some such....there are a lot of compelling offhanders...

Oh, I'd say Arbane for freedom if you use a Wizard Slayer

The Cheesy Green Katana is nice, but I really like the Blade of Red Rose from Ruad (long sword with +1 AC, +1 saves, + 10 MR). My current kensai/mage has the latter in her off-hand, while the two slots for the main hand are occupied by CF +5 and Sanchuudoku (using CF +5 most of the time, naturally, except for healing and special tactics).

Oh, and I did forge the Crom Fayr, but no one wants to use it in my current party, so I just carry it as a trophy :D :D

Why katanas are so overpowered in this game? I mean, Curdis has made a thread about this. Why is it that you can actually hurt more and the magical katanas are awesome? And why in the mods the katanas that appear are just cool?

Questions without answer...
:D

Well...

Katanas have been broken since they were first introduced way back in the old PnP rules. Someone just watched too many Samurai flicks, I guess ;)

in history katanas have been the best swords
most time and effort put into making them
most craftsmenship, most durable
MUCH sharper, my friend has one in which he can literaly cut threw a car door with (tested it at a junk yard :D ).

Yeah, that's cool... :D :D :D

IMO, however, broadswords are best for optimal fighting performance...

Well lets get back to the question. Shall we? ;)

In history, swords in all countries & times come in various grades & qualities. It is vapid nonsense to say that a katana is better than, say, a rapier just because it's a katana. We have more surviving high quality Japanese swords because they remained socially important and militarily relevant far later there than in the west.

As to the junk yard test, well, next time you have cause to have a sword fight with a car door, that will be most useful, no doubt :p Slender blades like a katana (or a rapier, for that matter) are hopelessly ill-suited to penetrating through substantial armour, and are suited only to the relatively light armours (with almost negligible underlying padding) used in places like Japan or partial armour of the 16th. Century back-breat-and-morion type.

In any case, regardless of the historical merits, it's broken for the game to give one weapon style such an inordinate advantage over all others.

Ok, I'm done ranting, I feel much better.

I agree with Nephtu; katanas have been romanticized through countless samurai/action movies (I can think of one particularly bad one as of late), so they seem rather "cool". They are exceptionally sharp and light slashing weapons (good for maiming rather than killing, actually), but in normal situations they would not be able to penetrate heavy plate armors. They have their use and are great weapons in certain situations but are not super-weapons, in the real world.

In a fantasy world though, I can see how various enchantments/magics invested in those "cool" weapons make them, well, rather "cool" super-weapons. Celestial Fury is my favorite weapon in BG2, at least image-wise. There are, however, a lot of other powerful super-weapons. I don't feel the game is too biased towards katanas (recent item mods make it even less so).

Yep, katanas have been romanticized.

Does anybody know if someone has made and item after the "Green Destiny Sword" from _Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_? I'd fight Improved Irenicus for it :D
