I intend to play Planescape: Torment again sometime in the near future. When I install it, I'll use Platter's Fix Pack. I also saw another "fix pack" called the Restoration Pack at Sorcerer's Place. All I have is the link; I can't find any other documentation. Is there any disadvantage in using the Restoration Pack, or does it have any known bugs? Will the Fix Pack and the Restoration Pack work alright together? If so, should I install them in any particular order, or does it not matter?

While I do not know anything about the contents of that restoration pack, your best bet is definately downloading the latest patch as well as the fix pack. These two things together will fix 97% of all gameplay issues in Torment and should be enough. Not to mention that the fix pack is definately the most up-to-date.

I downloaded the Restoration Pack, and there is some documentation in one of the .ZIP files.

I came to the conclusion that Platter's Fix Pack should be installed before the Restoration Pack, but I don't know if they are 100% compatible. The Fix Pack adds files to the /OVERRIDE directory. All of the fixes are optional, and they work with the original (patched) DIALOG.TLK files. The Restoration Pack replaces the DIALOG.TLK, DIALOGF.TLK, VAR.VAR, and BEAST.INI files, and it adds (or replaces) files in the /OVERRIDE directory.

I don't know if Platter's fixes will have any problems working with the new files. Other than that, the only potential problem I see is that the Restoration Pack tries to replace eight of the files from the Fix Pack. The documentation for the Restoration Pack states that the files called DDAKKON.DLG, DEBB.DLG, and DMARISSA.DLG contain Platter's bug fixes, so there doesn't seem to be any problem there. But there is no mention of Platter's fixes in the other five files called DEMORIC.DLG, DJUSTFER.DLG, DMORTE.DLG, DNORDOM.DLG, and NORDXBOW.ITM. None of those fixes by Platter is "critical", so I think it might be best to give priority to the Restoration Pack. However, it would be nice if they were fully compatible.

I still don't know if the Restoration Pack has any bugs of its own.

On a related note, I'm guessing that the Tome of Cheats is not compatible with the Restoration. Both MODs makes changes to DMORTE1.DLG, so you might be forced to choose between them.

Tome of cheats

Hey, anyone's had this problem?

I've installed this pack you mentioned (probably Platter's, with the Tome of Cheats). and, uhm, I've got problems - only CD 3 works ok (i've got 4CDs version, if there's any other ). I wanted to go to the Smoldering Corpse Bar for Ignus, but the location didn't load. Well, I thought of this tome of cheats and had ignus instantly on CD3. But that's no problem, really. The problem's that also CD4 doesn't load.... I've killed Ravel etc., and when I left the maze for Curst, the game requested CD 4 (normal), but when I inserted it, wanted CD3. And didnt; load with any of them....
I haven't been trying much to solve this problem as I dont have much time for playing, but I woulnd't like to stop at this level.... Anyone knows what I should do?

Your problem has nothing to do with the restore pack Gore.:\

As for the restore pack, it's compatible with the fix pack: just load the fix pack first, then the restore, overwriting where necessary.

The files that are in platter's fix pack that are in the restore pack have all his fixes applied.

The restore pack is not a fix pack of any kind, and is both incomplete and discontinued.

ok, then it seems i've installed some other pack, anyway - this one with the tome of cheats.... and I've got problems with 2nd and 4th CD. PC demands 3rd all the time and still doesnt load the locations

Doing a full install of the game should prevent you from having to switch between CDs all the time.

After you have installed the game via the installer program, do the following:

1.) Create a folder on the hard drive that you wish to install the game data to. For this example we'll create a folder on the C drive called TData.

2.) Now in C:\TData create three new folders called CD2, CD3, and CD4.

3.) Insert Torment CD 2 and copy the entire contents of the CD to C:\TData\CD2. Repeat this step with CDs 3 and 4 copying the entire CDs to their corresponding folders.

4.) Edit your Torment.ini file using Notepad or some similar text editor. This file can normally be found in C:\Program Files\Blackisle\Torment. At the very top of the page you'll want to edit the lines that start with CD2, CD3, CD4. Edit them as follows:

CD2:=C:\TData\CD2
CD3:=C:\TData\CD3
CD4:=C:\TData\CD4

5.) From time to time the game will ask you for disk two to authenticate the game. When playing the game keep this disk in your CD tray. You have now completed the full install of Planescape: Torment.

Another possibility might be backing-up your saved games and then reinstalling the game, the patch and the fix-pack only. But then again, there is a small possibility that any other packs you might have installed could have broken save-game compatibility.

That doesn't sound like a problem that is caused by any fix-pack. Sounds more like you have a problem with your CDs. Check to make sure there are no scratches on it. I had this problem with CD 3. It was because my CDs were in those carton holders and when you take out/put back the CDs there is a chance you can scratch them, luckily I bought a Game Doctor which is good for restoring scratched CDs (as long as they are not too scratched). So my advise would be to check very carefully for any scratches on the CDs that are not working properly.

Nee, I dont believe that's the scratches which make my life so painful...
Gonna just reinstall the game and see what happens.

(and why the hell nor german, nor french patch doesnt work with my version, though they are both for PS:T 1.1, which I have? - wanted to make a change so that the dialogues are not boring anymore when replaying, but the patches dont work - they're correctly installed, but dont change the language version ) - but that's a minor problem.

(well, anyway, how many times can one play PS:T? I'm getting slightly.. bonkers... or so? )

The 1.1 patch doesn't alter the game text, for any language version. If you want to change your text to French or Russian, add me to your MSN list or something and I can send you the files you need.

You won't be able to use the Restoration Pack if you do that though (at least not the parts that change text). You will be able to use the Fix Pack.
