Master/Magister of House Telvanni Bug?

Alright, well, I'm advancing pretty quickly in House Telvanni and am currently Wizard or something. They are building my stronghold, and I'm waiting for it to finish. Now, I've heard a lot about this Master(?)/Magister/Archmagister bug, and I was just wondering what the details of it were. What I've heard is that if you choose to become Master, you can't go any further, or something like that. But I really don't understand it at all. Could someone explain to me in detail about this bug? I wanna know before I get to it. And if I have to choose to be Master or Archmagister or whatever, is one better than the other? I just don't get it.

I dunno I became Arch-Magister with no problem, just don't become master or something i'm not sure, did you run a search?

If you got unpatched, you wont get to choose between advancing to master or not. Well, if you're on pc and got unpatched, just become master, and when you've done enough chores for Magister, just open the console, and type the following:
player->PCLowerRank "Telvanni"
This will lower your rank to Wizard. Now just talk to Master Aryon again about advancement, and you'll become a Magister.

Does the bug happen on xbox or is it only for computer?
