grid system?

Okay, stupid question. I see references to x,y grid coordinates in some of the walkthroughs but I have no idea how to use those coordinates in the game. Is there some game function that I am just unaware of?

Grid system
Well, I am a bit puzzled about the grid system too, but haven't been able to find out how to use it elsewhere - can anybody tell me how this is done?

Just press 'X' and the coordinates of the cursor will be shown in the message window at the bottom of the screen.
