How do you use grenades?

This seems like it should be fairly obvious but I can't figure out how to use grenades (PC version). You can't seem to equip them as a weapon and I don't see my grenades coming up as an action icon at the bottom of the screen. I looked through the manual but only found a description of what grenades do. Thanks in advance!
