yeah, I'll rent the regular version and stuff, but I'm not going to buy it or anything. As long as I can rent the regular version, I might be able to wait and by the extended edition.

Myself and mi hermano will only be buying the extended DVD version, the one with the extended scenes that they rather sillily edited out of the original, pah to long, needed to be longer.

Eheh, I already managed to "purchase" an early copy three months ago or so...
(I know people on the forum here dont like me saying that, but anyway...)
What I
am going to
buy p) however, is a box with the three extended versions combined. The extended version just add so much more depth to the movie.

Do you know when they are going to sell that one?

I will buy the basic version and then sell it on Ebay a few months from now. I just have to have a copy to pour over for a few weeks. Once I get my fix I will sell it and wait for the extended version and buy that one for my collection.
I did this with both of the last movies. FOTR I bought for $15.99 and sold for $13. Two Towers I bought for $15.99 and sold for $11.
Same price as renting - without the potential late fees and I can geek out with all the bonus interviews and what not to my hearts content.

I have started a little fund for buying the Extended Version BOX of the Trilogy (there's got to be one!)...
Can you imagine watching all 3 extended versions in a row
I'd love to do it over some holiday

I'll be buying the extended version. The cinematic version felt like it had far too much cut out of it, I didn't like it that much.

Speaking of which, it will probably come out around Xmas ~~ I hate that! But I also read that it adds quite a lot of stuff and with the battles and special effects it was taking a lot of time/money (almost like making a separate lower-budget movie) to render/edit/etc.
I am on it, though! The movie is cool

Yeah, IIRC the extended version usually come out around mid-November, here in the UK anyway.

It's confusing though. Some say they added the Saruman bit in the end and some say they didn't.
I don't believe they did film it, but it would be cool.

Read in danish medias around the time when the film came in the movies, that the guy playing Saruman was rather annoyed they had cut his part from the movie.
This leeds me to belive that they did shoot some footage of him and didn't find room for it in the movie....
This again would lead to belive that such footage would be included in the extended versions.
but it is some time ago, and well - was mostly on the gossip side of the news medias, so it might be a "red herring"

I hope they include the whole Scouring of the Shire bit at the end. I found it rather annoying how they cut that out. And how they cut out Saruman on the whole. By doing that, they just make you think that he stays at Orthanc. But he doesn't. So if they add the bit at the end, they'll HAVE to add Saruman too.

Yes it is true. Many of the scenes with Saruman (including the "final") was not in the movie, but can be seen on the DVD. Of course the guy who played Saruman was annoyed!!
