Guild Wars

I was just wondering are you going to have a Topic for Guild Wars here? If you don't know what it is Guild Wars is a competitive online role-playing game that the members are familiar Blizzard employees that helped make Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo made. Plus there will not be any monthly subscription fee of any kind. This is the site to learn more about it.

Only Buck Satan (administrator and owner) decides what specific forums that are on GB, so you will have to wait for him to decide

Since our MMORPG forums don't get a whole lot of traffic, we will only add one if there is demand for it. So... if anyone else would like to see a Guild Wars forum added, please speak up.

It has A big community for a game in Alpha here is some sites that will tale you
more . It also has alot of
guilds to join already. P.S. There is more guilds then that link shows. The two sites to check out that will tall you more is
Guild Hall and
TheGuildWars.net. The Guild Hall has the must members and the best site.

I must admit that I fail to see the use for a forum for - well - most MMOG infact, here on GameBanshee.
MMOGs usually all have big communitites, from development to retail, but these communities are often concentrated around a few sites and boards. Therefore I doubt GBs MMOG forums would ever get much traffic.

You could say the same thing about Morrowind thy have huge communitites and huge chunk of those people post just at a few sites but you still have alot of posts about Morrowind.

Morrowind's community is also very different from MMOGs, mainly because it is a single player game.
In MMOGs the communities are assembled in fewer forums, because they wish to post with the same people as they play. This is natural, because people would want to socialize in conjunction with the game. And MMOGs are a lot about socializing.
This is not neasecary for most other game types, because there it doesn't matter whom you communicate with as long as your questions get answered.
I've seen this with the two MMOGs I've played in retail, as well as for the MMOGs I follow under development. Most often this will mean that there are either official forums from the gamedeveloper (or similar) or a sort of "unofficial" official forums that will get almost all the traffic.
I also think that the fact that there is low low postcount in the MMOGs sections of GB adds to my point.

Must of the people I know on the Guild Wars forums post on 3 or 4 forums and I post on 8 forums about Guild wars. So we do post a lot of places plus there is no official forums. It is all unofficial forums and it is not your average community becouse a lot of them are from Diablo, Morrowind and games like that.

Well - I'm quite sure you can find numerous rather empty "Guild Wars" forums also, because the communities of MMOGs tend to gather in fewer forums, due to the socializaing with the people you play. Even more so, then most other games communities.
I'd almost bet that when Guild Wars goes retail - or even open beta (if it does this), that people from the community will migrate to fewer forums.

It is going to have a open beta which is going to be as long as the close beta. It is has a nice size sites like The Guild Hall has 1859 members and lot of the other sites have over 500 members.
One more thing will you please stop puting Guild Wars with MMORPG it give the wrong image of Guid Wars it is a CORPG game.
This what I got from the FAQ. This will explain what I mean.
Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?
Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences.
Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, kill stealing, and lines to complete a quest.
Guild Wars takes place in a large virtual world made up of many different zones, and players can walk from one end of the world to the other. But Guild Wars eliminates much of the tedium of traveling through the world. Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). With respect, Blood Fang, the developers' calling it a "Competitive Online Role-Playing Game" is a PR tool that's been used frequently before, and to little effect. At least, from the FAQ material you posted, it sounds no more competitive (and no less) than many other MMORPGs that are available. By definition, it is the latter, and fits in all respects. How it chooses to distinguish itself from the pack will ultimately be a matter of features not duplicated elsewhere, rather than re-naming its genre.

There is nothing in that text you provided that states this is not a MMORPG.
As fable said, just because the developers like to call it a CORPG dosen't mean it isn't a MMORPG.

And this is just plain wrong by the way.
In EVE-Online (just to take a MMOG released a little over 1 year ago) everybody plays on the same clusters of servers, and thus in the same virtual world/universe.
And there are others MMOGs, in development that will follow the same way to create worlds.

I reason I say CORPG is that it feels completely different and plays completely different then any MMORPGs I have seen, played, or heard of. Plus it focuses mostly on fighting, groups and guilds. Instead of gathering materiels to build stuff.

Well - all MMOGs have something that tries to differentiate them from the competition.
And this one dosen't seem all that different - there is still a version of the PvP and PvE as far as I can make out from previews and the site.
PvP variation is for instance the Guild vs. Guild missions/combat and PvE is the solo missions.
The only real places it seems to differentiate itself, that I can tell from the information, is with the skill system and the "no-traveling" thing. And then it seems to be the diablo of MMOGs.

PvE is a group of players that play against the Environment. It is not solo missions.

PvE stands for Player vs. Envioment and can just as well be solo as groups fighting against computer controlled monster(s).

About every thing has to do with Guilds or groups. See in must PvE you pick a group to play just that Mission. You also form Guilds to go at war with other Guilds by taking control of there towns and lands. Towns can be taxed to make money for the guild. There is a couple areas you can explore but must of it is for Guilds and groups. There one more PvP that you fight in arenas with a party and you are not able to pick who you fight with.

You can - as I said - also play solo missions in Guild Wars, it states so both on the official site and in numerous of the previews.
This game is very similar to most other MMOGs. on the market, although there are some different features in this game (instant action and the skillsystem) then other MMOGs
But then again, this is the case for almost all of the MMOGs on the market. Most of them have features to seperate themselves from the competition on the market.
But we are moving off topic here - the topic was if there was a need to make a forum for the game, and not a discussion about the developers calling it a CORPG instead of a MMORPG.
If you wish to discuss Guild Wars, it might be better to simply start a thread in the
Game Discussion Forum which is the general discussion for games that haven't their own forum. Or possible you could ask Buck to move this thread there.
