Portrait Issue

I have a portrait that I want to use. It's the right dimensions and the right file type, and I'm using nearinfinity/SK to make the swap, but when i swap it it comes up all black with no picture in near infinity, it shows up just fine in SK, and I get that question mark thing in the actual game. Any idea what could be causing this problem?

did you use a true color bmp? bg2 supports only the lesser resolution color... ;)

I did 16 bit which is the lowest I can go in photoshop and it's the same format I used when making other portraits that work fine. It's weird because in SK they show up fine, in NearInfinity it's a black screen, and in the game it's the questionmark thing.

try going up one more resolution level...who are you trying to replace???

there is a much easier way to do it... ;)

simply name it like

nimoenm.bmp

for example, and put into override directory...

i seem to recall its suppose to be like 256 color... :)

I'm trying to replace the SilverStar thief NPC. I'm saving them the same way I'm saving the portrait for my NPC and getting nothing.

you should open a portrait which is already available in the game.
for example open yoshimos portrait and paste the new image on it.then save it with a different name it should be work now.that s what i do and it works.also try using paint to do that photo shop has too many options maybe it causes the problem.

I fixed it. It had to be 24 bit bmp, and I was probably saving it as 16 bit.

i've been looking everywhere for a good drizzt do'urden portrait and i finally found one that i like. i was sure to use the correct sizes for the small and large, as stated in the handbook. i go in to create a new character, click on "custom" and find that the files are indeed there, although when i select them, the window beside only displays a sillouete with a question mark inside it! the files are bmp. what is the problem? :(

You are sure they are in your portraits map + bmp 24-bit colour? Might wanna try using SK, easy to do, works fine for me!

same problem

I'm having that problem too. I have the pics in the portrait folder in 24 bmp format and I can select them in customize but all I get is the sillouhette with the ? in it. Can somebody please help me because I am getting Frustrated.

Edit: nevermind, it seems that the sillouhette goes away the next time that u run BG2. Thanks for the no responses anyway
