This is ofcourse not much help but you ought to able to kill hím at this stage. If not he can be bribed although I couldn't when I once soloed which meant I had to resort to traps

I know I ought to be able to, that's why I feel like a complete idiot...
I attempted to bribe and it didn't work, he turned hostile.
I have a feeling my strategy is bad...I've looked at the walkthrough and nothing works...I don't want to cheese it...
*sigh*

send out a wizards eye and get old thax to attack it. That should keep him busy and give you an opportunity to wail on him. That's not too cheesy is it?

No, creating decoys isn't cheesy.

For one thing, how did you beat the other dragons? I would assume that the same strategies would apply, as the dragons do not differ all that greatly.

Download Kevin's Dragon fix patch... any traps in visual sight the dragon goes hostile; any cloud kill it roams until it sees you; magic resistance it goes hostile.

try this send a wizards eye and 4 elementals
this works to soften em up
Then cast invisbilty on your tanks send one behind it
and one in front
that way wing buffetwill only affect one tank
have your mages then cast lower restince if insect swarm didnt getem
then hammer away with Magic Missles
Speaking of hammer Crom Fayer Works wonders

It might have been a lucky fluke, but on my first play through, Aerie killed Nizidramanii'yt with a single disintegration spell after Nalia softened him up with Lower Resistance.
Before that, her previous "Toughest Foe Vanquished" = Kobold, so it was quite a step up!

Try a lower resist and feeblemind combo.

for me it was cool to kill him with melee and use only cool spells. Since he is outside try using Lightining Strike, it works great on him. You can get alot on him if you use the staff of thunder.

I have the same tactics for all dragons :
fighters try to keep the dragon far from mages&priests when they cast :
aerial servants/fire elementals
magic missiles
lower ressistance and then other spells

Well, my first run through I just used slayer change with Viconia casting Regeneration against dragons. The dragons usually go down *very* fast with just a little support.
Also, if you can get the dragon to focus on a Mordenkainen's Sword summon, it can't hurt it and you can get a lot of hits in from a distance (archers/spellcasters spread out). If the dragon gets hurt and is focusing on a summon, send in your front line fighters (from different directions) to kill him off quickly.
Lower Resistance * 2 + Greater Malison + Finger of Death can work wonders if you like that sort of thing.
Beyond that you'd need to post details of your party...

Jaheira - creeping doom
Imoen - timestop & gate (demonfodder

)
3 x tanks, 3 x missile weapons took him down after that.
Although I noticed sometimes the big swine mirrored creeping doom back at me, it still got him.

I have the same tactic for all the Dragons:
-send tanks
-summon some ariel servants
-haste
-improve haste your tank and your favorite
-if u want cast some bless and aid spells...
All that should wark perfectly...

The dragonkiller is the the assassin dualed to fighter at level 9. He has three poison weapons and a very good thac0. If all three poison is activated the dragon will not last many rounds.
And yeah call lightning is a great spell for outdoor encounters, especially if it is cast by a ranger dualed to cleric. Incredible damage at max level.

Well, I can understand your "bangs head". Worse, I cannot provide any working strategy. At least, some destructive hints:
1. Do not use Wizard's Eye. The Eye will be swept away to an unknown position. You'll be unable to regain control of it and you'll be unable to cast Wizard's Eye again - "you can have only one explorer".
2. Do not send Mordekainen's Sword. The sword will be charmed and you will have two considerable opponents - the dragon and the sword - instead of one.
3. If the dragon casts Summon Insects then be off (change area) as fast as possible. Its Summon Insects is about 4 times more harmful than a normal Summon Insects spell. You can return immediately - the damned cloud will be dispelled.

In ToB they will have another dragon that is outside. The problem is that he will be a blue dragon, which is of course immune to lightning. I can't wait for that particular fight!

As a side note on this, one of the projects I have going is improving the AI for the dragons so they pay more attention to the important threats than the summoned creatures. IE if you summon 4 aerial servants, and move across the screen the dragon will ignore the aerial servants and come after u. It makes the dragon battles alot harder. If no summons are present the dragon will go after the nearest magetype(any single multi or dualclass mage) of the highest level, and if no mages are present the next biggest threat is a clerictype(any single multi or dual).Unfortunetly even with awesome AI thats alot smarter than the original, the dragon can still be killed almost instantly with a spell sequencer and insta-death spell, so its a frustrating problem.
I plan on Hex editing the dragons for my game, make them immune to instakills (kind of like a permanent death ward active), when i get the time that is.Also i am going to lower their saving throws (if possible) so even if they get hit with 3 Greater Malisons, they will still have good saving throws.

Again I must ask. Is there a point in casting more than one greater malison? I thought they didn't stack.
