i wanted to test how difficult retribution can be so i made a normal kensai and put him to level 40 to test his thaco and such

then i made a monk and did the same

even tho the kensai had -20 something and my monk only had -9, my monk hit WAY more often and stayed alive. can someone tell me why this is?

PS: i tested it multiple times so it was not a fluke

I can try :p

If you read the kit description you can see that at level 20 the monk's fist strikes as a +4 weapon and 4 times per round, where as the kensai only strikes 3 times per round, all that taken into consideration, there is also the mods. With that I mean that if you have let's say ease-of-use installed it will change some things: Kensai:
grandmastery in longsword and at level 13 he should be able to attack 4 times per round, and if you get the boots of speed 5 times per round, and then there's always dual-wielding :D
So if you have E-O-U installed I think it's weird that your monk is better...

why the monk can stay alive is also because of some of his innate powers, I think it's each 5 level his ac decreases, so that would explain why he doesn't get hit that often...

Hope that helps a bit...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I played BGII - SoA(ToB)

The monk's AC decreases by one for every two levels. The boots of speed don't increase attacks / round, they only increase movement speed; however the spell haste would increase attacks by one (Improved haste doubles attacks). The second weapon gives an extra attack per round to the total number but takes rolls (attack and damage) from the off-hand weapon.

Yes, the idea of giving a monk so many attacks with fists is because fighters can increase attacks to grandmaster level, giving two extra attacks per round. So ideally the comparison should be done with a kensai with grandmastery and a +4 weapon in his hand.

Then again, it would be better to observe the hit rolls instead of actual hits, because of the animation speeds; also, get an autopause for every round, then count the number of hit rolls in one round. Thats for the sake of comparison.

@Araknid70

Actually with ease of use installed the boots of speed acts as though you're hastened...
I never experienced getting the two extra attacks from grandmastery before installing ease of use..

Hmm. I never had an extra attack from haste; then again, I never installed EoU. However I'm sure I installed a fix for the grandmaster proficiency; otherwise getting 5 attacks per round would be impossible.

Regarding proficiency 1/2 an attack is added for every prof above proficient, I think.

well i dont just mean he had more attacks and had better AC so he survived, i mean the hits that landed compared to the hits that missed were better then that of a kensai.

by the time thac0 goes down to the low negatives, it doesnt matter that much any more. especially in tob, both you and enemies will have low thac0s and low armor classes, thac0 usually wins so both will hit a lot.
